To support the growth of the Elekta business and our constant innovation in patient care, the Global Engineering business area has an exciting opportunity for a Physicist. The R&D Physics group is responsible for providing support to the business and contribute with designs and measurements in the following areas: physics of radiotherapy systems, including beam generation and dosimetry (electron beams, MV and kV photon beams), general radiation physics, Monte Carlo simulations and other computational modelling methods, control systems for experiments, microwave components and theory, accelerator waveguide testing and tuning, optics, physics of detectors and imaging systems. Candidates for this position should be capable of contributing in several of these areas, but particularly in radiation physics and experimental techniques for radiation beam measurements on accelerator-based radiotherapy systems. The closing date for this vacancy will be 11th November 2016 and the position attracts a competitive salary and benefits package. Qualifications Candidates should have at least a degree in Physics, Radiation Physics, Medical Physics, Accelerator Science or closely related discipline. It is desirable that they are educated to MSc or PhD level and have worked with accelerators as a professional physicist, either in a research, industrial or clinical environment, with experience of leading test activities. Practical knowledge of medical radiotherapy systems and imaging systems (both X-ray and MR-based) will be an advantage. Responsibilities Successful applicants will take a leading role in supporting the development of new products and will be involved on a number of projects including both computational and experimental activities. The position will involve designing, planning, implementing and managing test programmes for Elekta image-guided radiotherapy Linac systems, in order to satisfy international compliance standards and other business requirements. Projects will often offer interaction with Research Hospitals and other Institutions, therefore exceptional written and spoken communication skills will be required. The ability to work to tight deadlines and within a successful team is also essential for this role.
