Hours: 37 hours a week (7 hours of which are studying)
Rota provided inc weekend work, morning & evenings.
Apprenticeship duration: 12 months
Salary: £5.55 per hour – salaried.
Training Provider: Swim UK
- Level 2 Activity Leadership (Swimming Teaching) or
- Level 2 Customer Service or
- Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning & Well-being Operational Services
Role: We are looking for a full time Recreation Assistant Apprentice to join our friendly and professional freedom leisure team. You will be trained in:
• Making sure the pool users are safe at all times.
• Maintaining high standards of hygiene throughout the centre.
• Setting up and taking down equipment for classes and events.
• Dealing with customer queries, comments and complaints.
Ensuring the highest level of customer service at all times.
You will need to have the ability to study at an NVQ level and complete an NPLQ lifeguard course. Experience of dealing with customers in a face to face environment will be of benefit, however full training will be given. Most importantly you will have high standards of work and be able to work with minimum supervision. You must be able to swim at a competent level.
To be a lifeguard you will need to be a strong swimmer and to pass a swim competency test which includes being able to dive to the bottom of the pool, swim 50 metres on your front in 60 seconds and 100 metres continuously on your front and back. You will also need to be able to tread water for 30 seconds in deep water.
In addition to this you will need an excellent understanding of customer service and be able to relate to customers of all ages.
GCSE’s in English and Maths will also be an advantage to you but not essential.
National Minimum Wage:
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies.
The Wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
Annual Leave: Annual leave entitlement which increases with service.
Eligibility: If you have completed a degree then unfortunately you will not be eligible for funding for an Apprenticeship.
