What this job is really like:This role provides a critical service to the Personal Product and Pricing Team in ensuring the success of pricing and underwriting activities in achieving agreed business strategy and performance targets. Responsibilities involve providing appropriate information, advice and services to the Product and Pricing Director with respect to all pricing and underwriting assumptions used in forecasting our top and bottom line financial plans, and ensuring adherence to Group control frameworks through supporting the regular operating rhythm. You will be responsible for reviewing inputs to pricing and underwriting decisions, challenging assumptions in trading forecasts, conducting detailed analyses and contributing to business development and strategy. You will lead a team of Pricing analysts with accountability for team management and planning activities, whilst providing guidance and support to meet individual development needs. You will contribute to the wider product and pricing team and support the Product Director in delivering a 'best in class' service to the business. You will work with other Personal Product and Pricing colleagues and information suppliers/customers delivering 'fit for purpose' information, advice and services. You will work closely with Finance on financial planning and re-forecasting processes, and provide constructive challenge to the Reserving and Claims areas. You will have strong analytical, communication and relationship management skills.Jobholders are typically responsible for:Owning the key pricing assumptions for a group of portfolios for a product line. Communicating key assumptions and any changes in them across the portfolios and ensuring clarity in measures taken in response to insight gained. Responding to any new data or insight that challenges key pricing assumptions and providing commentary and raitonale on whether this changes our prior assumptions. Leading team members to ensure insightful analyses of all pricing assumptions are regularly undertaken and robust tracking and monitoring of assumptions are carried out for all accounts. Supporting the Operating Rhythm to ensure a controlled / well managed business that achieves impeccable delivery. Building and maintaining effective working relationships with other business areas and functions in order to ensure all refreshed assumptions are scrutinised and refreshed in a timely manner. Conducting detailed analyses as required, including working with complex or partial data, to produce timely, accurate, insightful and commercially appropriate outputs. Lead on the Product and Pricing input into financial plans including re-forecasts. A key component will be to work with Finance to ensure accurate loss ratio bridges are in place for use in financial planning processes. Leading the Product & Pricing Input into other areas of the business such as Actuarial, Technical Claims, Reinsurance, Capital and peer reviewing the output as and when required, ensuring consistency in the usage and understanding of the data to aid a coherent and a joined up reporting processPrevious experience and track record required:Strong numeric skills and understanding of statistical analysis Experience of working within an actuarial or statistical environment Previous pricing experience gained within the general insurance market in either motor or home Understanding RSA - Intermediate Working Effectively - Intermediate Building Effective Relationships - Advanced Understanding Data - Advanced Using Judgement - Advanced Communicative Effectively - Intermediate Delivering Results -Intermediate Planning - Intermediate Pricing - Advanced Research & Intelligence Gathering - Advanced Cost Analysis and Modelling - Intermediate
