This is an exciting opportunity to join the University of Brighton's Counselling and Wellbeing team.  The successful candidate will work at two sites, Eastbourne and Falmer, in the first instance.

The eclectic team of Counselling and Wellbeing has some presence on each of the five university sites and provides a range of individual, group work and student centred projects. They also work to provide systems, processes, policies, protocol and procedures to support the Student Experience. The team includes: Counselling (Counsellors, Locum Counsellors, Guidance and Counselling Manager), Medical Centres (Health promotion and Nurse), Curriculum Development Manager (Workshops, Wellbeing initiatives, curriculum development, delivery and design of bespoke training targeting curriculum areas), Student Experience and Equalities Manager (Safeguarding, Bullying and Harassment policy and, equality focussed initiatives and projects) and the Student Guidance Tutor Manager (17 SSGTs positioned in each of the academic school areas).

You will have responsibility for managing a specific case load of students.  Background experience of working within the health and education sector is required, together with understanding the delivery of counselling within an organisational context.  You will have a good level of knowledge related to issues that are presented by students and have excellent communication skills.

You will also be required to deliver detailed initial assessments, be familiar with clinical models of risk assessment and be able to signpost and support referrals to specialist provision as and when required.  You will also have the opportunity to work with clients on brief episodes of counselling, pulling from theories that underpin brief intervention work.

Please note that this post is term time only (37 weeks per year) and fixed term for one year. Job sharers welcome. You will be required to undertake a DBS check.
