St. John’s is a specialist school and college offering high quality education and care for young people aged 7-25 with a wide range of special educational needs.

Title:     Learner Support Worker

Hours: 40 hours per week (8.30am – 4.30pm Monday –Friday)

             Term time only + 32 days holiday + 8 Bank Holidays

Base:   St. John’s School, Seaford

Salary: Starting salary £14,724

The role of Learner Support Worker is important in ensuring that the school and college meets the educational, social, emotional and physical needs of all learners. Our aim is to promote the inclusion of all learners ensuring they have equal access to opportunities to become as independent as possible. Functional literacy and numeracy are essential life skills for all our learners and we have an explicit expectation that all staff in learner facing roles will actively promote these skills:

*   supporting efficient procedures within the session by undertaking routine tasks such as the organisation of resources, furniture and equipment; supporting individual learners or groups of learners under the direction and oversight of the session leader or other member of the staff;

*   supporting learners behaviour during teaching sessions or other group activities; supervising individual learners or groups of learners during break times and at lunchtime. supervising individual learners or groups of learners when off site – this may include supporting a learner’s programme when at another local college, on recreational trips, in the community or when undertaking work experience and undertake duties relating to the medical care of learners that supports a learner’s attendance as directed by Medical/Therapy staff;

*   observing, monitoring and supporting learners in order to support their attendance; track the progress of individual learners and report progress to the tutor, Assistant Director of Learning/Director of Integrated Services and parents at review meetings; 

All job applicants will be required to provide 2 referees (one must be your most recent employer) and undertake an enhanced DBS Disclosure. This process forms part of our recruitment and safeguarding policy.
