Backend PHP developer required to create new features for (and contribute to the overall design of) our client’s rapidly evolving tracking application.

The Position:

Our client’s core technologies for web development are Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP which the company is currently re-architecting into the Laravel framework. Although the role focuses on the backend, you will become familiar over time with the complete end-to-end operation of our client’s system, including the real time tracking of data flowing in through to the system and the apps, pages, APIs and reports which provide data to customers including bus companies, bus users, data aggregators and app developers.

The Candidate:

You will know how to provide a suite of APIs, develop an access control strategy, attach to 3rd party data sources and get data into the system in a well-structured design. You will be able to build server-side daemons and tasks for manipulating incoming data (for example, raw tracking data), streaming into the database and producing useful reports and analysis. Experience with Laravel or similar MVC frameworks is therefore essential, and an interest in or experience with transport and tracking projects would be advantageous. You will also need to be experienced in Linux, Apache, Mysql, PHP, Scripting (Bash or Python), SQL, Javascript, Jquery, CSS, HTML, MVC, Git and Bootstrap

The Company:

An exciting global technology company providing solutions for the public transport sector, our client combines the flexibility and creativity of a small company with the reach and stability of a large organization. Its UK business develops a fully featured and successful real-time public transport information system involving everything from tracking vehicles to distributing information via web applications, mobile apps and big data reports
