Grade - Apprenticeships: Apprenticeship

Would you like a rewarding career which uses your engineering and problem solving skills to help people with disabilities? Then why not consider becoming a Rehabilitation Engineer within our Wheelchair and Specialist Seating Service.

Rehabilitation Engineering is the use of engineering principles to develop technological solutions and devices to assist individuals with disabilities. Wheelchair Service based Rehabilitation Engineers work with Wheelchair Therapists to select the wheelchair and seating that will achieve the best mobility, support and comfort for people with long term disabilities.  They will design, manufacture and assemble or adjust the seating and wheelchair to meet individual needs.

We are looking to recruit an apprentice Rehabilitation Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be fully funded to study for a BSc in Healthcare Science Practitioner (Clinical Engineering) (Level 6) at The University of the West of England whilst working with the service.  The post holder will start at Band 3 (£17,787 per annum) and move to Band 5 (£23,023 per annum) after successful progression through the university course. Post qualification, the successful candidate would work within the service at Band 6 (£28,050 - £36,644).  The job will primarily be based at Horsham Hospital but will include travel to NHS sites around West Sussex and to see clients in their own homes.

We are looking for someone who is hardworking, quick to lean, a problem solver and a good communicator! This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person who will have their university qualification fully funded whilst working and gaining experience in the service.  The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs including maths and English at grade 4 or above and a minimum of 2 A levels including maths and a science or engineering subject at grade C or above.

Please note additional documents for Band 5 and 6 are provided with this vacancy to give applicants information to illustrate the job roles that can be expected as a fully qualified Rehabilitation Engineer.

Applicant requirements This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
