Main purpose

The Strategic Planning Manager will oversee continued detailed development of the strategic planning process liaising with key stakeholders across the business to ensure that both current and future enhancement are firmly embedded into the business as a robust, dynamic and core ongoing process that helps shape and manage the assessment of changes in the business environment.

You’ll consolidate the progress made with embedding strategic business planning across the organisation, allowing Strategy & Innovation to deliver on its key business objective of introducing and then maintaining and enhancing a robust strategic process across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Facilitates the identification of the strategic questions the business needs to answer to deliver its strategy
  • Gaining senior stakeholder sponsorship and allocating ownership for these questions through the process.
  • Supports the strategic question owners in developing their responses in terms of required strategic activities to include ‘SMART’ objectives/outcomes, budget and resource estimates, level of cross department engagement and timescales to support broader business planning
  • Defines, develops and manages the Operating Plan that captures these strategic activities in a way that allows the business to plan for and prioritise budget and resource requirements
  • Assists in the communication of the strategic planning process to the wider business
  • Works with Department Heads to develop their individual Department Plans based on the broader Operating Plan
  • Sits on Executive committee groups with a remit to influence decisions.
  • Plays an active role in supporting the Head of Strategy with the company strategy, objectives and business plan; acting as conduit for upwards and sideways communications and feedback to and from the team
  • Provides a specialist strategic service to the organisation, proactively identifying and supporting business needs
  • Champions and demonstrates adherence to departmental processes, company policy and regulatory requirements
  • Ensures specialist skills and knowledge are shared with teams across the business as appropriate
  • Provides expert advice and constructive challenge when needed, providing constructive and nurturing feedback.
  • Ensures project timelines are realistic
