City College Brighton and Hove is hosting two Apprenticeship Recruitment Days in May for Mears Ltd, the leading social housing repairs and maintenance provider in the UK. The company is in its 3rd year of a £200m contract with Brighton & Hove City Council and have committed to providing 200 apprenticeships during the life of the 10 year contract. Representatives of City College and the city council’s Economic Development and Housing Social Inclusion teams are members of the Mears Apprenticeships Steering Group and work closely with Mears’ senior management regarding their apprenticeship strategy.
The recruitment events, aimed at young people interested in apprenticeships in the construction and maintenance trade sectors are to be held at the Exhibition Room of College’s Pelham Street Campus on Wednesday 16th May from 9am until 1pm and at the Learning Resource Centre of the City College East Campus on Wilson Avenue on Thursday 17th May from 9am until 1pm. The events will also provide an opportunity to find out about administration apprenticeships within the company.
“We’ve built up an excellent working partnership withCityCollegein recent years so it makes a lot of sense to pull resources when comes to recruiting new apprentices”, said James Cryer, Partnering Manager of Mears. “I think bothCityCollegecampuses provide the ideal welcoming environment where young people will feel encouraged to come along and chat with us about what apprenticeships with Mears involve. I look forward to recruiting some excellent new apprentices who will buy into the Mears ethos of a commitment to customer service and high quality work.”
“Mears have shown their commitment to investing in the future of Brighton and Hove by training local people and providing job opportunities in the communities they serve so City College is proud to be working in partnership with them to provide training for its apprentices”, said Donna Keenan, Managing Director of the College’s City Business Skills department. “I think these events provide a fantastic opportunity for aspiring apprentices to come along and find out what opportunities are available to them.”
