Grace Eyre employed a Service User Involvement Worker, Kathy Agashi, in September 2011. This is an exciting new role for both Kathy and Grace Eyre, and focuses on supporting people to get more involved in decision making at Grace Eyre.
Kathy supports the forums where people come to talk about plans and decide what they want to happen at Grace Eyre. There are forums in Hove, Brighton and Worthing. She also supports the involvement group – a consultation group who work on projects. Some of the work they have achieved so far has been the review of the Grace Eyre complaints procedure and paperwork, the review of the recruitment procedure and the initiation of a ‘getting new staff team’. This team has re-written the application form in conjunction with Human Resources, changed how they conduct interviews, become more involved in other areas of recruitment, and are planning to deliver training sessions to their peers on how to become interviewers. They have also made a training film talking about making decisions, and presented and led a session at the trustee away day.
All this is leading towards being a more service user led organisation and Grace Eyre are very excited about getting started on everyone’s ideas on how they want to get involved!
