10 Sussex networking and skills events in 2017

Sussex is a great place to live and work, with towns and cities that are brimming with creativity, culture and careers! So it’s no surprise that there are plenty of networking and skills opportunities to take advantage of throughout the year – many of which are either free or very affordable. We’ve put together a quick 10-bit timetable to give you a flavour of what’s happening near you and the local providers that are involved in the jobs scene.

Apprenticeship matching – NEXT DATE TBC

Considering an apprenticeship rather than a degree route? Brighton and Hove City Council host matching events on a regular basis inside town centre venues so that local employers and training providers can meet local school leavers looking for their next opportunity.

Find out where to look for summer jobs, including summer internships, at the University of Sussex. The session is open to all students and graduates, which is quite a few of you! If you can’t make it to TEDxBrighton 2017 (see below), tickets for TEDxUniversityofBrighton are available right now! Discussions will be sparked, and new networking opportunities will be forged under this year’s theme: Destination.

Brighton Digital Women – monthly

A bunch of bright women working in the digital sector decided to set up a women’s network in response to a growing demand for female-orientated networking opportunities in the city. A different theme is set up every month, with an average of three talks per session which all reflect the focal theme. Each session is free and gatherings are usually staged on the first Wednesday of every month.

Codebar – every week

Codebar is a non-profit initiative that stages regular tech workshops to support growing digital communities in East Sussex and London. Its busy calendar is packed with free workshops, led by some of the biggest and brightest digital companies in Brighton.

Career Transition Network - May Work it out Walk – 17 MAY

If you’re in the midst of a career transition, for whatever reason, and you would like some local support and advice, take to the South Downs this May to join this small, like-minded, career-focused group to chat it through along peaks and ridges, in association with the CIPD Sussex Branch.
