BrightonandHoveJobs.com celebrates Eurocities award for BEACH project

Published on: 1 Jan 2015

BEACH and EurocitiesLoveLocalJobs.com and its partners have won a prestigious European award for their work on the pioneering BEACH jobs advice website for youngsters.

BEACH, the Brighton Employability Advice and Careers Hut, beat stiff competition to scoop the Eurocities award, taking top spot in the Smart Jobs category. The gong recognises the commitment of LoveLocalJobs.com to help local youngsters prepare for the workplace and find the right job.

This ethos will continue to underpin all LoveLocalJobs.com job boards as they roll out across the UK. The innovative BEACH project was developed as a citizen-driven online portal between Brighton & Hove City Council, secondary schools, local employers and BrightonandHoveJobs.com, powered by LoveLocalJobs.com. Since launching it has become the only place to go for employability advice in Brighton and Hove which is designed for young people by young people. The portal is hosted within the BrightonandHoveJobs.com jobs board website, and is targeted at young people who are at school or college, or those who have already left and are looking for employment, an Apprenticeship, part-time or weekend work. It is developed, maintained and marketed by the BEACH Patrol, made up of students, teachers, local authority and BrightonandHoveJobs.com.

Gary Peters founder of LoveLocalJobs.com said: “We are so proud of what we have achieved with this simple concept. We are very keen to ensure young people get the careers advice they need as easily as possible and in a language they understand. This is just the start of the concept, there is a lot more to follow.”

Council Leader Jason Kitcat said; “This is brilliant news. BEACH is a fantastic low-cost service created with and for young people, supported by the council and our partners. BEACH fully deserves this international recognition.”

The Eurocities awards recognise outstanding efforts by cities to engage with smart citizens to develop smart cities.
