Silver for Chichester College barbering student

A Chichester College barbering student is celebrating after taking centre stage at a national competition.

Alannah Hardman, from Littlehampton, came second in the Student Creative Barbering Competition, held at BarberUK in Birmingham.

The competition received more than 400 entries from student barbers from around the UK, with the best ten shortlisted to compete at the NEC.

There Alannah, who studied a full-time barbering level 2 VRQ at the college, impressed the judges with her skill and creativity to claim second place.

She said: “I did not expect it at all and I still can’t believe it!

“When my lecturer called to say I had reached the final ten, I was amazed. I was just really happy to have made it that far, so when they called out my name I was shocked.

“I’m really happy – I’m an older student, having come back to college after having my little girl and I just got my head down and worked hard to complete my course, so to receive this on top of my qualification feels really good.”

Sue Sweeney and Tina Skelton were Alannah’s lecturers at Chichester College. Sue said: “We are extremely proud of Alannah’s achievement in Birmingham.

“She completed her course ahead of time, working exceptionally hard to achieve everything asked of her.

“She showed great determination at the competition and deserved her placing.”
