Hastings Careers Title

A company as unique as the people working for it.
Clearly Hastings Direct

It’s our attitude and the way we run our business that makes us different. Our 4Cs culture is at the heart of what we do at Hastings Direct. We have a strong people focus that shines through our 4Cs: colleagues, customers, company and community. We believe that if we create the right culture for our colleagues, and give them the right tools to do their job, there will naturally be positive results for our customers, company and community.

We listen to our colleagues’ opinions, respect their individuality and support and encourage colleagues to develop to their true potential. We encourage our people to be themselves, because we believe diversity of thinking and different perspectives strengthen the way we work.

Hasan Faruk – Customer Representative and Coach

“Hastings Direct is great at what it does. Not only as an important player in the insurance industry, but also in the way it treats both its customers and colleagues. It genuinely puts them first. At the heart of everything we do is our commitment to the 4Cs. It allows us to focus on what is important. And shows that the company knows success is built on a culture where everyone has a clear idea of what we need to do and then actively play their part.”

Listening, training and saying thank you.
Clearly Hastings Direct

Being supportive is in our nature. From day one, our colleagues have access to a whole range of training and development opportunities. Our customer facing colleagues have access to a full learning programme that supports them through five career levels as well as classroom and live academy training. All colleagues benefit from our online ‘Your Career’ portal which acts as a gateway to a variety of learning programmes, from practical workshops, to downloadable guides and recommended reading. In fact, we’re always looking for new ways to help our people improve their skills and further their careers.

We encourage our colleagues to voice their opinions when it comes to business decisions and most importantly, we listen! We run an annual engagement survey to find out what our colleagues think about working here. We use the feedback to form company-wide and local action plans that feed through to our 4Cs objectives. Of course, it doesn’t stop there. Our people have the scope to voice their thoughts, ideas and frustrations – in fact, whatever’s on their mind – through a weekly newsletter, monthly colleague forums, annual colleague roadshow and even in the coffee queue.

David Becker – New Business Commercial Manager

“I regularly engage with senior leaders, who are always accessible, engaging and take a keen interest in me as an individual. It’s refreshing working in an organisation where my peers are hugely driven and ambitious and work in a collaborative way. I think, in the main, we truly understand the benefit of working together for collective success and what that approach can enable you to achieve.”

We celebrate and reward great work because we believe our people deserve to be recognised for going the extra mile and producing great work. Individual and group performance is measured through the effect they’ve had on our 4Cs. Colleagues can nominate anyone in the business to recognise them for their contribution. There are monthly and annual awards with the seven most deserving winners receiving recognition at our annual 4Cs award evening.

“There’s a range of business areas which means they can offer opportunities to develop your skills or career. I enjoy the team atmosphere and the company recognises employees through programmes such as #recognise, which displays achievements or compliments from customers. There are also celebratory events such as the 4Cs awards evening.”
