Job Details

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a College Protection Officer to join our College Protection team on a full-time, permanent basis. 

Main Purpose of the Role: To be one of the first points of contact for visitors, staff and pupils visiting Brighton College, as well as on-site residents, on call officers and the nursing team. For this role excellent communication skills, whilst being able to manage situations in a calm manner, are essential. Candidates must hold a SIA Door Supervisor licence.

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide five-star customer service at all times.

• Provide clear, concise and accurate information to all visitors, governors, staff and pupils in a professional manner.

• Ensure all interactions are handled with courtesy and respect, even in challenging situations.

• Provide Security/Concierge Front of House presence on College properties.

• To be proactive regarding the security of the College, Prep School, and offsite premises.

• To be alert for possible intruders.

• Man the Security Lodge when not required elsewhere.

• Liaise with organisers of events being held during duty shift. This will include external clients as well as College staff and pupils.

• Ensuring the safety and security of pupils, staff and governors on campus.

• Ensuring the safety and security of visitors to the College.

• Monitoring of traffic and traffic control at specified times.

• Basic investigation and report writing.

• Unlock and secure exits, entrances and buildings on College premises at designated times.

• Random patrol of College grounds and buildings.

• Respond to alarms (fire, burglar etc.).

• Respond to emergency calls from staff, pupils and the Health Centre

• To respond to any other reasonable management request.

Person Specifications

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

• Must have a current SIA Door Supervisor qualification (essential).

• Customer service experience (essential).

• Genuine interest in working within a school setting.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to stay calm in demanding situations.

• Friendly and approachable manner.

• Ability to interact with all types of people with courtesy and tact.

• Ability to work as part of a team.

• Good IT skills.

Hours of Work

40 hours per week (Monday to Sunday) on a rota system between the hours of 06:30 and 23:00. This will be five out of seven days per week, including some weekends and bank holidays. Depending on the shift worked within the rota system, the actual hours worked in a week may be greater or less than 40. However, when averaged over the rota period (currently seven weeks) hours worked will not be more than 40 per week.

Flexibility with regard to working hours is essential. Overtime, at generous rates outside of core hours, is available on occasion.

Holidays

23 days, plus bank holidays increasing to 28 days plus bank holidays after 2 years of service (of which 3 days need to be taken between Christmas and New Year when the College is closed).
