An exciting opportunity has emerged for an Housing Options Officer to join one of Badenoch and Clark's most improved Local Authority clients in West Sussex in a temporary role.

Based in Crawley, this is a full time role for 36 hours per week. The purpose of the role is to be the first point of contact for customers approaching the council with housing difficulties either in person, by telephone or by email/letter.

Our client is looking for a candidate with previous or current experience of:

*Providing advice to customers under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Part VI and Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 as amended.
*Giving advice on the prevention of homelessness and identify alternative housing options.
*Making preliminary investigations into someone who is threatened with homeless.
*Writing and maintaining clear and concise notes and update records using appropriate IT for all customers who approach the Council for help via the Housing Help Point.
*Giving advice regarding security of tenure, rights to matrimonial homes, injunctions and transfers, illegal evictions and landlord and tenant disputes.
*Identifying where the council may have to take a homeless application, and referring on the day to a Housing Options Officer so that the case can be considered further or to be able
to book appointments to see the relevant advisor ensuring the preparatory work is completed before handover.
*Giving advice on prospects for rehousing via the Councils Choice Based Lettings Scheme and to advise of any additional information the client may need to provide in order to maximise their
opportunities and to advise on Homeswapper, Supported Housing Schemes and any general enquires relating to their bidding activity.
*Arranging for homeless applicants to be placed in temporary accommodation where a duty to do so has been triggered in accordance with current legislation and procedures.
*Ensuring the most effective use is made of temporary accommodation, especially in relation to the cost to the Council of providing it and to the needs of the applicant.
*Referring homeless applicants to other Local Authorities where appropriate.


Only applicants who feel they meet the above criteria and are interested in a permanent role with this Local Authority need apply for this post. Our client has made it very clear that their ideal candidate will come with previous experience of working within a private sector housing team within a local authority, but failing this they are happy to consider applications from all backgrounds.
