Paid Volunteer, Befriender & Companion, Horsham

£9.00 - £20.50 per hour, plus mileage allowance

Are you looking for a new and rewarding career? Would you like to make a difference to someone like Keith*? Maybe you have considered Volunteer jobs? There is no upper age limit for applications, becoming a Paid Volunteer, Befriender & Companion could be perfect for you.

We have part-time jobs available in the Horsham, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath areas of West Sussex. It is essential you are a car driver with access to a vehicle, and you would need to be able to some mornings, evenings and alternate weekends.

My name is *Keith and I live at home in my own house with all my memories. Since my wife passed away, I am very lonely. Things I used to find easy are now becoming difficult and I can't keep up with my daily duties. I have a wonderful carer called Sarah and she comes to see me 5 times a week. She helps to get me up in the morning, washed and dressed and makes my breakfast.

We sit and chat for a bit and then she will say goodbye, as I know she must go and visit someone else who needs help. Sarah comes back to see me at lunch time, reminds me to take my medication and makes me a healthy meal. Whilst I am eating my lunch, she is very kind and does a little housework. She sometimes takes me out to the local shops or to go see my friends. Some days she may also come back to help me up the stairs to bed. I am so grateful for Sarah, she is like my extended family and I don't know what I'd do without her, I always look forward to seeing her.'

Come and join the best!

You could be joining an award-winning organisation who focus on a companionship led care service. They have won multiple awards over the years and have built an excellent reputation within communities across the UK. This exceptional service is different to any other care organisation in the area, providing a minimum of 1-hour home visits to a purely private client base, but the focus being on companionship. However, there may also be an element of personal care in this job. Imagine having Dementia but still being able to go to your dancing class on a Saturday, still being able to pick up your pension, still going into town on a Wednesday for cream tea!

You would be helping make these things happen every day!

Benefits & Hours

  • Part-time hours are available between 10-15 hours per week (unfortunately, we cannot offer school hours or full-time hours due to the nature of the work);
  • If you have some availability early mornings, lunchtimes, afternoons, evenings on a weekend, then this position is ideal for you;

Do you have a big heart? If you are excited by this opportunity, we want to hear from you. This is not only rewarding, but you will be gaining a friend too!

*Keith is just a typical example of someone you would support.
