LANGUAGE ASSISTANT (French) (Fixed term, part-time)

We have vacancy for a Language Assistant to join the Languages Department. You will be a fluent native speaker or be a completely fluent non-native speaker who is keen to help students develop their oral skills and confidence in French and to help prepare them for their oral examination.  The successful candidate will work with small groups (max 4) of students for 30 minutes each week.  As a college, we are ambitious for our students and we are seeking to appoint staff who can bring the right blend of flexibility, commitment and energy to the post.

This part-time position is fixed term until August 2020 due to a staff member taking a year out.

The successful applicant will be placed on a part time, term time only contract, with a range of between 8 and 10 hours per week. Your actual hours within your range will be agreed with the Head of Department at the beginning of each academic year, depending upon the number of students. These hours are to be worked across three days but there is some flexibility in the arrangements. The post will be worked across 36 weeks per year (during term time, the exact weeks to be agreed).

The pro rata salary for this post will range between £4,049 per annum (for 8 hours) up to £5,061 per annum (for 10 hours) and includes 4.3 weeks of holiday pay.  This salary is based on spine point 30 within grade 6 of the support staff pay spine, for which the current full time salary is £24,162 per annum.

Company

We are a successful Sixth Form College, graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2012.

About 50% of our students come from Brighton and Hove, but many come from other state and independent schools throughout Sussex. The same variety of backgrounds, cultures and interests that make the Brighton area unique, also makes the College a lively, stimulating place to work.

There are approximately 2500 students on roll, of whom the vast majority (approximately 99%) follow Level 3 courses (mostly AS, A levels or BTECs) with the remainder following ESOL courses. The vast majority of our students are in the 16-19 age range, and following full-time courses. We have a strong local reputation for the academic success of our students and for our focus on individuals’ needs.

We are very proud of the achievements of our students and very much value the individual contribution that each of our staff make to our continuing success.  Our last staff satisfaction survey found that nearly 90% of staff at BHASVIC enjoyed their job.

The College is within walking distance of Brighton town centre, Brighton train station and is on a main bus route.  Please note that there is limited parking on the College campus and parking permits are allocated according to the distance you have to travel to work.

We offer a good package of employee benefits including:

  • A family friendly approach to help achieve a healthy work/life balance.
  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme for all our teaching staff.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme for all our support staff.
