Senior Lecturer in Product Design

Location: Brighton - Moulsecoomb

Salary: £43,267 to £50,132 per annum

Product Design at Brighton is an established undergraduate design course with a history of excellence in industry-focussed design education. We are seeking a new course leader to contribute to the advancement of this course, and the design subject area within the School and beyond. The course is evolving to deliver a broader range of design specialisms that reflect the breadth of opportunities that are emerging across design culture and the future for products, services and systems.

The School of Architecture and Design has a vacancy for a Course Leader for the BSc(Hons) Product Design with Professional Experience. The course leader will have the responsibility of leading the shaping the course with the team to be future focussed, adaptive and agile. Specialist knowledge of contemporary technology in relation to product design, research and / or engineering / production / manufacture / distribution is welcomed. They will bring complementary expertise to the course team who have specialised expertise, research and practices that include Critical and Speculative Design, History Theory and Culture, User Experience Design, Human Factors, and Materials, Circular Economy and Sustainable Design. Leadership and team building skills are essential, as is a progressive and future-focussed outlook.

Research and industry informed teaching is vital and opportunities to work across the undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and within the doctoral community will be supported.

All staff engage in the administration of teaching and research within the School, for example through the leadership of modules and participation in committee work.  Staff without formal teaching qualifications will be expected to complete the University’s postgraduate certificate in higher education teaching or apply for an HEA fellowship via the portfolio route (depending on their prior teaching experience).
