Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) is the largest community healthcare provider in Sussex.
  • 4,750 full and part time staff, with over 4,000 people registered on our bank
  • 14 inpatient and outpatient locations, serving a total community of 1.3 million people
  • Medical, nursing and therapeutic care provided to over 9,000 children and adults a day
  • July 2018 Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating of 'Good' with 'Outstanding' features
  • Stonewall Diversity Champions, and Disability Confident Employer - Level 2

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Therapies In Schools (TIS) team within SEN schools across West Sussex. The TIS service is an innovative PT and OT model of service which is commissioned by West Sussex County Council and delivered by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT). Its aim is to provide additional therapeutic input into schools, supporting teachers and carers to integrate therapeutic goals into the heart of curricular activities and at home. TIS provides accredited training to all education staff and offers opportunities for families and carers to access training too.

The TIS service has been highlighted by the Children's Disability Council as excellent example of joint commissioning and innovative practice. TIS has also been mentioned in a ministerial letter by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families. The TIS service was originally an 18 month pilot project which focused on just three schools. This pilot phase was used to create a blueprint model for TIS county-wide.

Following the unprecedented success of the pilot we are now in a position to recruit numerous highly skilled Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to deliver TIS across nine schools. Each recruited therapist will cover a number of schools to reflect their geographical location and working hours. Typically a therapist will work in one school per day, so a three day a week part time post may cover three schools, depending on the needs of the schools local to that therapist.

A TIS therapist will need to:
  • Deliver training to small and large audiences with confidence
  • Attend parents' evenings
  • Be passionate about a child's right to receive their education in a local school
  • Be committed to providing intense therapeutic input to a small selected caseload of very complex children, including multi-agency working and home visits
  • Provide innovative and diverse approaches to solving clinical and procedural problems
  • Demonstrate significant experience in areas of complex physical disability and/or sensory processing

We're particularly looking for therapists who have a passion for service development as TIS intends to expand further. Our vision is to grow beyond SEN in West Sussex and for this we need people who can demonstrate commitment, forward-thinking, and a positive attitude, so we can facilitate change across current service models. If you'd like to be part of the new future of therapy in education locally and beyond then we'd love to hear from you.

Please state in your application how many days you are interested in working, whether you require a term time only position, and the towns/areas to which you would be willing to travel.

This post may close earlier than the published closing date if sufficient applications are received.
