Our client is a leading flood risk / flood modelling and surface water drainage consultancy. From its inception in 1997, they have grown to become a renowned global leader in flood modelling and flood risk.

Their UK consultancy team are dynamic, innovative and dedicated to ensuring their clients achieve the best possible outcomes. The primary work is supporting Private Developers (small and large). They further support Councils and Government in better understanding Flood Risk and Surface Water Drainage. They make the complicated simple. The team is made up of Chartered Engineers and Environmental Consultants who boast a wealth of experience having worked in the field and office-based consultancy.

Their work is predominantly UK based, however they do work internationally further demonstrating their presence as a market leader in Flood Risk. Such is their presence they have recently been acquired by Royal Haskoning DHV (RHDHV). This will provide new and exciting opportunities.

About the Role

Due to the continued success and growth of the company they have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join their existing team as a Graduate Drainage Engineer / Civil Engineer.

You will become a key part of the existing consulting team. The successful candidate will have an enthusiasm to develop their career in the water/ environment sector. Through liaising with clients and building relationships with their current client base. Building their knowledge and expertise to support the client to make informed decisions on how best to mitigate flood related constraints.

You will be supported to understand what the flood data demonstrates and how this can be applied to support decisions. An awareness of the mechanism of flooding is an advantage.

They are looking for someone who is wanting to start their career and start to be independent in their working. They are a fast-paced consultancy. They expect you to be able to accommodate their way of working, be well-organised, motivated, enthusiastic and flexible to benefit the company and you. The right candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team. It is essential you can communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with colleagues and clients alike. They encourage dialogue within the team and see it as a positive that senior consultants through to graduates are all integrated within the same workspace.

Client care is important to them as a business and they encourage regular communication with their clients so that they are involved in the project process and potential implications of what they are seeking to achieve. You will need to be comfortable in managing projects and liaising with the client to support them in achieving their end goal.

The work is fast-paced and they support ambitious individuals in progressing their career whilst providing exposure to all aspects of the business.

Their current team undertake surface water drainage strategies, for outline planning, full planning and design. Where required support overland flow models, river modelling, river floodplain and direct rainfall modelling, hydrological analyses, supporting engineering design and CAD work where required as well as writing reports.

They would expect you to be able to fulfil most of the work detailed above.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role you will hold a Minimum BEng in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a Minimum BSc in an environmental subject (Geography /Marine Sciences);

Desire to support clients from initial conception stage through to finished design drawings
Wanting to work on Flood Risk Assessments / Surface Water Drainage (Strategy and Design) specifically in supporting planning applications
Awareness / Knowledge of UK planning policy (NPPF / TAN 15 / SPP / PPS15)
GIS knowledge
Exposure/Awareness of MicroDrainage and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of Sustainable urban Drainage Systems (SuDS)
Interest in joining professional bodies (CIWEM / ICE)
