Job Details

Responsible to: School Business Manager

Main Responsibilities:

  • To Provide technical and software Support
  • Upkeep and good order of the computer equipment
  • Support staff and pupils to raise their levels of knowledge and skills
  • Identify and remedy software, hardware and network faults
  • Advise on ICT Health & Safety in the school and monitor its practice
  • Support implementation of the school ICT policy scheme
  • Ensuring Website is kept up to date
  • Adding content to digital signage boards
  • Researching into the latest IT/digital technologies for schools
  • Supporting staff in lessons

Specific Duties:

  • Run a personal development meeting for staff once a month
  • Acting as first point of contact for all IT issues
  • To Manage and Maintain the Schools Network
  • Maintenance and cleaning of computers, Whiteboard and projectors.
  • Install and maintain software systems as required.
  • Stock control and upkeep of related records and inventory.
  • Record all Procedures and Processes in detail to aid staff knowledge
  • Produce "How to Guides" for new staff and deliver staff IT Training
  • Support the teachers and pupils with the laptop trolleys whilst running a lesson
  • Maintaining internet access websites used and permissions granted
  • Maintain network internet and email logins
  • Responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware, software and end user problems
  • To supervise and run the connection to the Internet
  • Manage and develop use of Kindles and IPads including Apps
  • Application of theft deterrent markings to all existing and new equipment as necessary.
  • Undertake periodic safety checks on equipment and materials, reporting findings to School Business Manager.
  • Working with teachers to ensure IT skills are utilised across the curriculum
  • Maintain and update website
  • Manage and maintain e-schools application
  • Knowledge of the programmes used across all year groups and within all curriculum areas.
  • Work with Leadership Team to develop IT Strategy
  • Manage anti-virus software
  • Workshop to help pupils and parents after school
  • Getting quotes for IT equipment and finding good deals
  • Being up to date on the latest technology to advise the school
  • Looking after all audio and visual equipment and looking for exciting ways to use it
  • Being a proactive member of staff and getting involved with all the aspects of school life including non IT areas
  • To run after school clubs or small groups
  • Any other reasonable task as directed by the School Business Manager.

Your working hours will be: 37 hours a week for 52 weeks in the year. 8.00 - 16.00 Monday to Friday. 30 minutes for lunch unpaid. One day a week leave 30 minutes early.

Will need some flexibility to help at evening events such as Christmas Plays. Time to be taken back in lieu. Flexibility of hours is important.

Leave entitlement is 23 days all of which must be taken during school holidays.

College release will be 1 day per week. During college holidays will be expected to come into work.

We have above average IT facilities for the children. Training on the job with JSPC. JSPC are a school provider and works in many schools in this area.

Training to be Provided:

Technical Knowledge and Understanding - Infrastructure Technician Level 3

• Working knowledge of a range of cabling and connectivity, the various types of antennas and wireless systems and IT test equipment

• Understands maintenance processes and applies them in working practices

• Understands and applies the basic elements and architecture of computer systems

• Understands where to apply the relevant numerical skills e.g Binary

• Understands he relevant networking skills necessary to maintain a secure network

• Understands the similarities, differences and benefits of the current Operating Systems available

• Understands how to operate remotely and how to deploy and securely integrate mobile devices

• Understanding and working knowledge of Cloud and Cloud Services

• Understands the importance of disaster recovery and how a disaster recovery plan works and their role within it

• Understands the similarities and differences between a range of coding and logic

Expected Duration:

22-24 months

Skills Required:

Literacy and numeracy sufficient to follow procedures for a range of varied tasks, some of which may be complex. Willingness to challenge themselves, able to work within a team, be self-motivated and have a passion for IT. Have an interest in all digital technology, audio, film etc. Able to communicate to children and adults face to face and over the phone. Ability to cope in pressure situations.

Qualifications Required:

Good standard of education with an IT qualification desirable.

Previous experience in a work environment also desirable

Personal Qualities:

Confident, good communicator, ability to work with people especially children and on own. Good team player. Resilience. An interest in researching new technology developments for education purposes.

Future Prospects:

This post will end after two years. However, this job will enable the post holder to have a strong cv as it covers a wide range of IT experience. It will also enable them to learn about self-management and team working.

Reality Check:

Own transport is recommended if not in walkable distance. Some public transport available – nearest rail station 30 minute walk, some buses from town centre.
