Job Details
We have a new position for an Electrical / Electronic Engineering Apprentice to join our small friendly team, working in our Technical Department with a view to specialising in lighting and electronics, to assist our production and sales activities.
Working closely with the existing Technical Team, the position will involve:
- conducting product tests and assessments
- testing custom products
- assessing cause of quality return
- value engineering products
- producing works instructions / build sheets
- providing technical support to production teams and external engineers.
Specific lighting and product training will be provided, but the successful candidate will need to be proactive in developing good working practices and test strategies.
The position requires interaction and co-operation with production staff, administration staff and sales team, so a team player attitude is important.
Day to day activities include the assembly and testing of electronics, electrical assembly and testing of lighting products, conversion of customer supplied lighting luminaires to emergency operation, test and inspection of bought in product, EMC testing and inspection plus handling and repackaging of purchased products.
Training to be Provided:
Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Electrical / Electronic Engineering
The Advanced Level apprenticeship programme enables candidates to work towards a framework of qualifications, as follows:
• Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
• Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
• Level 2 Functional Skills in Math, English and ICT
• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
• Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
Expected Duration:
Up to 3 years
Skills Required:
An interest, or experience, in Electronics field.
Computer literate, with good communication skills, both written and verbal
Qualifications Required:
Essential:
Minimum GCSE C Maths and English.
Science, Computing, Electronics etc preferable but not essential.
Desirable:
Level 2 qualification in Engineering
Personal Qualities:
Reliable, with a positive attitude and looking for further progression.
Future Prospects:
ELP has committed to a long-term plan to enhance the Technical capabilities at our Billingshurst base.
The intention is for the successful apprentice to become a full-time employee within the Technical department, with scope for further progression with the company. Higher level training will be made available for suitable applicants.

The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.90 per hour. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
