Job Details

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriting Analyst to join our Underwriting team in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.
 
You’ll explore and learn new tools (open source/commercial statistical modelling packages) and techniques (including machine learning). You’ll need to be up to date about the motor insurance market and the relevant standards and regulations.
 
We’re looking for someone who can lead the building of new predictive models using linear and non-linear statistical techniques to monitor, maintain and update existing statistical models. You’ll be required to solve key company questions and provide analysis, insight and competitive advantage to the company by producing recommendations, analysis and reports that ensure the risk profile and performance of the portfolio are under control.
 
We require someone who will proactively seek ways to improve existing processes in the Underwriting department. You’ll also need to implement and advise on an analysis strategy for the company, with particular focus on burn cost modelling, data mining for novel rating factors and performance monitoring.
 
You must be a logical thinker with solid reasoning ability, have excellent attention to detail and accuracy along with the initiative to make decisions.
 
Additional responsibilities

  • Maintenance of analysis programs written in SAS, RADAR, and other software packages
  • Write new analysis code using SAS, RADAR, and other software packages
  • Build predictive models using SAS, EMBLEM, and other software packages

 
Skills & experience
 

  • Minimum 2:1 in a numerical undergraduate discipline
  • Strong background in statistical methods
  • Experience of personal lines insurance analysis
  • Experience of SAS, R/Python, Emblem, Excel and advanced statistical techniques
  • Experience in people and project management
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to adopt a logical approach to solving problems
  • Excellent data and statistical analysis skills
  • Strong IT skills (including Excel and ideally programming skills)
  • People and project management skills
