Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project (BUCFP) is a small charity which provides practical support, education and services for disadvantaged residents of Brighton including the unemployed, pensioners, unwaged and those in poor housing or on low income.

Salary:              £14.00 per hour

Hours:               Part time 8 hours per week

Contract:           Part-time one year fixed term contract

Area of work:    The organisation supports people from across Brighton & Hove at our community centre at 6 Tilbury Place, Brighton, BN2 0GY.

Accountability: This post is accountable to the Paid Workers Group (PWG) in the first instance and ultimately to the board of Trustees

Management:    Flat structure

Leave Entitlement:      25 days (pro-rata) plus bank holidays (pro-rata).

Other requirements: A Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) check is required for this role.

Principal Tasks

The IT and Digital Support Worker will be responsible for maintaining the IT systems and the digitalisation of the organisation. The post holder will provide IT technical support and will be the data protection lead, overseeing digital compliance within the organisation. They will oversee our computer and digital support resources for our service users.

IT Technical Support Work

  • To fix technical IT problems, including issues relating to hardware and software as they arise.
  • Advise on IT infrastructure issues including a programme for upgrading equipment and processes.
  • To assist the Volunteer Coordinator with the system administration of the centre CRM system Lamplight.
  • To be responsible for managing the website, email administration and social media channels.
  • To be responsible for maintaining and organising internal servers ensuring compliance with the organisational data protection policy.

Project Implementation

  • To work with staff to provide digital inclusion and learning activities for our centre service users
  • To work with relevant members of staff to put systems in place to ensure that funders’ monitoring and evaluation requirements are met.
  • To assist with the creation of digital and publicity communications.
  • To assist project workers with digital training and support.
  • To attend and participate in team meetings when required.
  • Work with the team to ensure that all polices, procedures and guidelines are implemented.
  • To produce reports as appropriate for the internal organisation.
  • To take collective responsibility for digital housekeeping as necessary.
  • To undertake other duties as reasonably requested by Trustees.

Person Specification

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  1. Experience of providing IT training and support to organisation
  2. Experience of providing technical IT support to clients / organisations.
  3. A high level of digital literacy, particularly in relation to the main Microsoft office packages, CRM/database systems and digital communications.
  4. Verbal, written and presentation skills appropriate to diverse groups of people.
  5. The ability to prioritise, be self-motivating, pro-active, a team player and work under pressure.
  6. Experience of website maintenance, design.
  7. Understanding of data protection legislation and experience of overseeing compliance.
