GUIDANCE MANAGER Permanent, Part-time – Job Share (0.5FTE), full year

Required to start from 1 September 2021

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and suitably experienced individual to work as part of the Guidance Management Team on a job share basis. As a Guidance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that students have excellent pastoral support in relation to a wide range of issues and needs including academic progress, personal development, behaviour and welfare, careers progression and safeguarding. You will work with the Head of Student Experience to lead and support a team of Personal Tutors, assisting and supervising them in their casework to achieve excellent outcomes for students. You will also have your own two tutor groups and contribute to the tutorial programme.

As part of our newly re-organised Student Support and Experience department, you will form part of a Student Journey team with leadership for Guidance and Academic Progress. As a member of this team you will work closely with teams from across the college and particularly closely with the Safeguarding Welfare and Community Support team and Enrichment, Employability and Experience team, as well as our curriculum departments, to manage communications with parents, carers and external agencies, including managing complaints and complex casework.

In addition to core duties, each Guidance Manager leads on specialist cross-college areas of provision which are agreed annually amongst the team. Current cross-college responsibilities are due to be reviewed as part of the wider re-organisation of this area, but will include an Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity co-ordinator role from August.

This is a permanent, part-time post, working 18.5 hours per week. The pro-rata salary for this post is £18,092. This salary is based on point 27 within grade 8 of the support staff pay spine for which the full time salary is £36,184 rising to £38,926 over four years subject to satisfactory performance. Holiday entitlement is 29 days per annum, the majority of which will normally be taken outside usual term time. This entitlement rises to 34 days after five years’ service. Annual holiday entitlement will be pro-rated for a part time post.

This post is offered on a job share basis with an existing member of the team. The working days are Wednesday (half day in the afternoon), Thursdays and Fridays (full day). Daily start and end times are negotiable and to be agreed, between job share partners and the Head of Guidance. From time to time these hours will vary in response to the needs of the College and will include some evening work (for example, parents’ evenings, school visits and open evenings).

Company

We are a successful Sixth Form College, graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2012.

About 50% of our students come from Brighton and Hove, but many come from other state and independent schools throughout Sussex. The same variety of backgrounds, cultures and interests that make the Brighton area unique, also makes the College a lively, stimulating place to work.

There are approximately 2500 students on roll, of whom the vast majority (approximately 99%) follow Level 3 courses (mostly AS, A levels or BTECs) with the remainder following ESOL courses. The vast majority of our students are in the 16-19 age range, and following full-time courses. We have a strong local reputation for the academic success of our students and for our focus on individuals’ needs.

We are very proud of the achievements of our students and very much value the individual contribution that each of our staff make to our continuing success.  Our last staff satisfaction survey found that nearly 90% of staff at BHASVIC enjoyed their job.

The College is within walking distance of Brighton town centre, Brighton train station and is on a main bus route.  Please note that there is limited parking on the College campus and parking permits are allocated according to the distance you have to travel to work.

We offer a good package of employee benefits including:

  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme for all our support staff.
