We have an exciting opportunity in the Central Locality, within our Neuro-disability pathway, for a Speech and Language Therapist with experience in Social Communication and Multi-Disciplinary Diagnostic pathways. We are offering a permanent role of 0.6 wte alongside 0.4 FTC (maternity cover) making a full time post for a year.

An hour from Brighton and the South Coast, an hour from London, this is in the north of West Sussex. The local geography and demographic is varied, including many tiny villages spread across the Weald and several rapidly expanding towns (Horsham, Crawley, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill).

In Central there are 34 Speech and Language Therapists, 8 Speech and Language Therapy Assistants and 5 members of admin staff and we are fortunate in having a Professional Lead Speech and Language Therapist across the Trust. We are looking for engaging, well organised, self-motivated individuals with established clinical skills and experience in the above specialist area to join us.

The ideal applicant will be able to evidence relevant clinical experience in pre-school and in school-age ASD assessment and diagnosis. The ideal candidate will have a specialist interest and significant experience in working with children with ASD and complex needs. They will also be able to work and contribute to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) as part of the ASD pathway writing complex clinical reports based on assessment findings. They will have knowledge and skills suitable to be able to contribute to projects, data collection and strategic developments as part of work undertaken to transform the Neurodevelopmental Pathway (NDP).

As Band 7 therapists the roles require a high level of clinical competence combined with the ability to work closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues and SALT clinical service managers to develop and optimise the service. As part of the wider Trust (Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust covers West Sussex, Brighton and Hove) there is a network of Band 7s working in similar roles with whom there are established links for supervision, support and to ensure equity of access to C-SALT services across the area.

Within Central there is group supervision approximately every 7 weeks, there are team meetings within specialist areas and bimonthly Locality Meetings. Under normal circumstances we have a Trust-wide c-SALT Professional day once a year and an annual Allied Health Professionals' Day.

The Trust is supportive of staff training and development, we have access to funding from the Education and Training as well as some funding at locality level. As a large service we also provide on a range of "in-house" training opportunities. In September 2018 we employed 5 Band 5 therapists, all of whom have opted to continue working with us following their fixed term contracts. We are a friendly and forward looking team.

Part-time would be considered for the right applicant.

This post may close earlier than the published closing date if sufficient applications are received.
