This is a new post, following retirements and the introduction of the 2021 Specialist Grade.

The successful applicant will join a team of 10 consultants (5.6 WTE) and a nurse consultant to participate in all aspects of community paediatric work based at the multi-disciplinary and well-resourced Seaside View Child Development Centre in Brighton. The team are actively involved in training and there are two paediatric trainees, one a national grid post, and a foundation doctor (FY2) placed at the Centre.

There are close links with CAMHS with significant investment in the neurodevelopmental pathway. There are also close links with University Hospitals Sussex and with Education and Social Services within Brighton and Hove Council. The Centre provides a bright, spacious and family friendly environment for multidisciplinary working. The team have also developed innovative ways of continuing to work during the pandemic.

The department is committed to teaching and provides clinical and research placements for students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

SCFT is consistently placed in the top ten for research activity in Care Trusts in England and the department has been involved in a number of research projects. There is an active regional research network and research activity can be supported subject to funding and job planning.

The post holder will take on an area of lead responsibility for the department. Possible areas include aspects of Neurodisability, SARC, Looked After Children and Education and Research. The post holder will be encouraged and supported to undertake further training when in post if needed.

The Sussex Children's Sexual Assault Referral Centre is located on the same site as the Seaside View child development centre and the successful applicant will be encouraged to join the daytime and weekend rota for this service, with training provided if needed.

We are looking for candidates who are innovative and flexible, committed to multidisciplinary working and will actively participate in developing new approaches to the delivery of high quality child health services.

Applicants must have valid registration with the GMC and a License to Practice and must demonstrate they meet the entry criteria for the Specialist grade.
