  • Working week: 7.30am till 4.00pm to be discussed at interview.
  • Total hours per week: 40.00

During a two year apprenticeship with us we would teach the successful applicant competency in workshop based cabinet making and specialist joinery as well as on-site fitting.

Working with our workshop-based cabinet makers you will be taught step by step the tasks involved in producing all types of bespoke furniture and joinery in traditional and contemporary styles, such as; kitchens, media and study furniture, bedroom and bathroom furniture, reception desks, windows, doors, wood cladding etc.  Everything will be bespoke and to the highest joinery quality.

As an apprentice you will learn to be confident and capable in:

  • Selecting the appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task
  • Cutting resources down to size, as needed
  • Safely use large scale equipment including, Table Saw, Vertical Wall Saw, Planer Thicknesser, Large Belt Sander, Edger, Spray Painting Booth, etc.
  • Safely and competently use hand tools for bench work and site work
  • Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time
  • Understanding manufacturing drawings and planning the making process from them
  • Creating standard and custom components of cabinets
  • Gathering the elements of each cabinet and assembling the final product
  • Applying sealant, varnish, and paint to cabinets, if required
  • Inspecting each completed item to ensure that it has been constructed accurately, and that the necessary finishes have been applied
  • Fitting furniture and joinery at domestic and commercial premises

Wearing the requisite PPE and taking necessary precautions to remain safe.

Desired qualifications

Good GCSE results (A-C/9-4 or equivalent) are desirable.

Choice of workshop based or site-based careers in the cabinet and joinery industry. 

We would hope you would stay with us full time but if you did want to spread your wings our training will ensure you are the best you can be in this field.

Depending on your experience you could earn £9.00 per hour this will be discussed at interview.

Consider location, own transport desirable.

King Cabinet Makers is a family run bespoke cabinet maker and specialist joinery business.  All our furniture and joinery is made in our fully equipped workshop and then fitted in homes and businesses across London and the South East.

Established in 2002 we are currently a team of five led by owner Scott King (Designer/Maker and fitter) two workshop based experienced cabinet makers, one site fitter and Sandra King who manages the day to day running Finance/Marketing/HR/H&S.

Our main work is designing and making bespoke kitchen, bedroom and media furniture.  It is also as diverse as making bespoke furniture for Yachts and Airstreams.  We also make commercial furniture for Hotels etc.
