We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Product Owner to join our Commercial and Marketing team in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

 

You’ll be responsible for defining stories and prioritizing the team backlog to streamline the execution of program priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of the features or components and assuring the release quality of all changes initiated by the function they represent.

 

You’ll work in collaboration with the Head of Change Delivery, Head of Architecture, Development Manager, Test Manager, Release Manager and members of their teams to ensure an effective Agile and Waterfall change delivery processes. You’ll need to manage relationships at all levels, ranging from technical and business and through to executives’ level.

  • Have the ability to think on your feet and problem solve, producing fast and effective solutions
  • Hold a strong, collaborative mind set, working with a variety of stakeholders to reach the best outcomes

Job responsibilities:

 

Pre-release – ensure clear articulation in the Business Case of what the proposed change is required to deliver, and assure that the detailed requirements and solution design will deliver the same

  • Business case - ensure high level requirements are fit for purpose to enable detailed requirements gathering by Business Analyst in next phase
  • Requirements gathering - ensure business SMEs are involved in supporting Business Analyst in developing detailed requirements, provide input into and sign-off acceptance criteria and live test requirements, business requirements document and any change requests
  • Solution design - sign-off completed solution design, requirements traceability matrix and any change requests

 

Release – agree scope and deliverables for each sprint & any in-process changes to it. Assure the quality of development & testing, sign-off Live testing requirements and confirm go/no go to deploy the release into production

  • Development - sprint planning, agreement and scope sign-off, attend and sign-off PBI demonstrations and any change requests
  • Testing - Sign-off test packs, review regression testing packs and identify any changes that may be required, attend and sign-off overall change demonstrations to key stakeholders, agree & sign-off priority of any defects as well as refined live test requirements, functional test completion, regression test completion and any change requests
  • Go / No Go decisions - run Go/No Go meetings, confirming whether the release is ready for deployment, confirming that any unresolved defects are not required for go-live, sign-off scope of post-live checks
  • Deployment - sign-off of post-live checks, satisfactory completion of the suite of live tests identified in plan & build phases and release of soft launch functionality to all intended customers.

 

Post release – ensure all warranty defects are resolved, and ongoing production monitoring & Continuous Improvement are in place

  • Warranty period - agree to live defect categorisation and root to resolution, ensure that all defects identified as needing to be fixed within the warranty period, are in fact resolved within the warranty period
  • Ongoing assurance - participate in relevant post-release / post implementation reviews, sign-off post release / post implementation review reports, complete any assigned actions from the above meetings / reports

 

General

 

  • Actively manage risks, issues and dependencies  
  • Serve as the voice of the customer / business
  • Develop scope, define and maintain backlog items, epics and user stories that guide the agile development teams
  • Assess value, develops cases, and prioritises stories, epics and themes to ensure work focuses on those with a maximum value that are aligned with product strategy
  • Solve product-related problems, make decisions, complete trade-off analysis
  • Collaborate with stakeholders during the visioning and concept development of a product
  • Act as an ambassador for the product internally and externally and as the primary contact for queries related to the product.

 

Job-specific competencies

 

Experience & knowledge

  • Insurance business knowledge and the implementation of software to support it
  • Formal Agile Project Management, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Agile development approaches.
  • Knowledge of Insurance business and its drivers

 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Good broad technical experience, working with Agile software development teams
  • Strong planning and control expertise
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
