Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our well-established teams within the Urgent Care Services across Crawley and Horsham. Within the Band 7 Clinical Team Lead role, the successful candidate with be the designated clinical lead for the Urgent Treatment Centre and Clinical Assessment Unit at Crawley, and the Minor Injuries Unit in Horsham. This role forms part of the senior management team for Urgent Care Services.
Main duties of the job
This is a rare and fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to apply for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse post within the services. The post holder should possess excellent clinical and leadership skills in the field of Urgent Care with a wide variety of experience. Advanced communication skills are essential in addition to proven mentorship skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to lead the nursing team and possess the knowledge and skills required to deliver best nursing practice and will work closely with the Clinical Service Manager and Operational Team Lead.
The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate a track record of improving patient care experience and open to working in a climate of rapid change in order to ensure the services are responsive to national initiatives.
As a registered, accountable and autonomous nurse you will always act in the best interests of patients and take responsibility for own actions and decisions. You will be required to demonstrate strong leadership qualities and be open, transparent and trustworthy.

Qualifications and/or Professional Registration
Essential criteria
- Completed and obtained RN and has current live PIN on NMC register.
- Mentor preparation ENB 199 or alternative mentorship qualification, ENB 998, BSc.
- Minor Injuries Module or equivalent
- Leadership or management qualification (or equivalent)
- BSc/MSc in clinical nursing or equivalent clinical and leadership experience
Desirable criteria
- Minor ailments module.
- Non-medical prescriber.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of managing a team at minimum band 7 level
- Minimum 5 years in emergency nursing at senior level.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in an Emergency Nurse Practitioner role.
- Proven ability to initiate and implement change both clinically and managerially.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrable strong skills in leadership and management
- Understanding of, and commitment to, achieving clinical governance standards
- In depth knowledge of the current national nursing agenda within urgent care.
- Experience of managing serious incidents and clinical risks.
- Proven ability to initiate and implement change both clinically and managerially.
- Ability to manage complex situations including conflict management.
- Proven understanding of budgetary management in previous roles.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Advanced history taking and physical examination.
- Plastering, suturing, ring blocks, trephining, manipulation.
- Working knowledge of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (2000).
- Demonstrate effective and accurate x-ray interpretation.
- IT literate.
- Understanding and knowledge of current issues in Urgent Care
- Demonstrates application of evidence-based practice
- Experience of direct clinical supervision and act as a supervisor/mentor to staff.
- ELS, ALERT, SCORE.
- Demonstrates initiative, enthusiasm and motivation
- Understanding of and commitment to achieving clinical governance standards

- Experience in clinical audit relating to urgent care and evidence of having completed an audit cycle and provide evidence to inform policy and service development.
