HR ADMINISTRATOR (Permanent, Part time, term time only)

Required to start ASAP

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well organised person to join our busy HR department. This is a new role which has been created to support the HR team with the administration of a variety of HR functions. This is an ideal role for someone who is considering moving into HR or is currently working in HR and wishes to gain further experience. Although this post is largely administrative, there will be opportunities to get involved in all aspects of HR work. This will enable the person appointed to gain some generalist HR experience and at the same time develop their knowledge about working in the Education sector.

As a successful and thriving Sixth Form College with around 3,000 students and 320 staff, we are seeking to appoint someone who can bring flexibility, commitment and energy to this important job. In return you will join a vibrant college community with an informal working environment. The College is an open and friendly place to work, with staff that are very supportive of each other, and a range of benefits offered to ensure health and well- being.

As HR administrator you will support the HR team with the administration of a variety of functions including absence management, recruitment and selection, staff development and payroll. You will be the first point of call for HR queries by email, phone and in person, answering these where possible and triaging more complex matters to an appropriate member of the team.

You will need to be highly organised with good attention to detail, a proficient IT user with experience of MS Word and Excel and the ability to prioritise and work under pressure. Previous experience and knowledge of HR is not required but you should have an interest in this field and a willingness to undertake training. Due to the nature of HR work, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and the ability to work in a discreet manner.

This is a permanent, part time post working 25 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (term time plus 6 days to be worked in the holidays). The 25 hours can be worked over 4 or 5 days per week and the exact start and finish times are negotiable and to be agreed, between the hours of 8:00am and 5:30pm.

The pro rata starting salary is £11,599 per annum, which includes 4.8 weeks of holiday pay. This is based on spine point 7 within Grade 3 of the support staff pay spine for which the current full-time salary is £19,927. This will increase annually up to £22,034 subject to satisfactory performance.

Company

We are a successful Sixth Form College, graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2012.

About 50% of our students come from Brighton and Hove, but many come from other state and independent schools throughout Sussex. The same variety of backgrounds, cultures and interests that make the Brighton area unique, also makes the College a lively, stimulating place to work.

There are approximately 2500 students on roll, of whom the vast majority (approximately 99%) follow Level 3 courses (mostly AS, A levels or BTECs) with the remainder following ESOL courses. The vast majority of our students are in the 16-19 age range, and following full-time courses. We have a strong local reputation for the academic success of our students and for our focus on individuals’ needs.

We are very proud of the achievements of our students and very much value the individual contribution that each of our staff make to our continuing success.  Our last staff satisfaction survey found that nearly 90% of staff at BHASVIC enjoyed their job.

The College is within walking distance of Brighton town centre, Brighton train station and is on a main bus route.  Please note that there is limited parking on the College campus and parking permits are allocated according to the distance you have to travel to work.

We offer a good package of employee benefits including:

  • A family friendly approach to help achieve a healthy work/life balance.
  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme for all our teaching staff.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme for all our support staff.

  • We support the principles of the ‘Living Wage’
  • Childcare Vouchers
  • Cycle Scheme
