This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Liaison team and be part of a creative and innovative service for people experiencing mental health problems while in an acute hospital setting. We could offer the right candidate the opportunity to enhance existing assessment and risk assessment/management skills in a supportive environment while acquiring new skills from liaison practice. Our team delivers care over a 24/7 period being a 'CORE 24' service. We have daily input, during the week, from Liaison consultants and higher trainee psychiatrists as well as the MHLT lead nurse and team lead.

Main duties of the job

As part of the MHLT you would -
  • Provide clear Emergency and Urgent Care mental health Pathways for patients, aged 17 years upwards, who attend the Emergency Department or are admitted into the general inpatient wards.
  • Give a rapid response to patients, aged 17+ years, referred from the Emergency Department and linked wards to Provide an urgent response time of 24 hours to all General inpatient Ward referrals.
  • Ensure our specialist mental health liaison expertise is delivered while working collaboratively with our acute hospital colleagues and teams across the site.
  • Provide excellent clinical outcomes, patient centred care and expert risk management while improving patient experience and involvement.
  • Ensure the 24/7 delivery of liaison input to the acute hospital via shift's given the MHLT's CORE 24 service provision that includes nights/weekends and bank holidays.
  • Have the opportunity, if wanted, to provide mental health education, teaching and development for acute hospital staff.
  • Benefit from the MHLT's approach to risk management, you would be encouraged and supported by the wider team when managing risk, we believe in holding risk at a team level rather than by individual practitioners.

Working for our organisation

The MHLT are based on site at the Royal Sussex County Hospital - the RSCH being a regional trauma centre for the south east of England which also houses a number of regional specialist wards on site I.E. Renal, Neurosurgery, cardiac amongst others.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The MHLT, being CORE 24 , operates a 24/7, 365 days a year service - the following shifts would be available -
  • Early 08:00Hrs to 16:00Hrs
  • Late 13:00Hrs to 21:00Hrs
  • Long Days 08:00Hrs to 21:00Hrs
  • Nights 20:45Hrs to 08:15Hrs

We are looking for enthusiastic, skilled practitioners (RMN/Social workers) who would be able to cover Band 6 bank shifts, they will possess good communication skills and understanding of both theassessment and risk assessment process as well as a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act. A flexible approach to clinical work and an interest in the liaison model of working would also be beneficial. We would also value applicants who can continue to maintain the strong links we have with USH and our community partners - all the while willing to learn the new skills required to work as a liaison practitioner. As part of the secondment you will be offered regular supervision as well as a full induction

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current registration [mental health/LD/Adult], appropriate to the job role
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience of working alongside people with complex health problems in the designated care group
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of providing a range of clinical interventions to people in the designated care group with a variety of health problems
  • Experience of working consultatively with professionals
  • Experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments
  • Experience of partnership working within and across various statutory and non statutory teams and agencies
  • Experience of working within the CPA process
  • Previous experience of working in the community
  • Understanding of clinical governance
