Alternative Airlines is a fast growing flight search and booking company. Alternative Airlines enjoyed a period of high growth with yearly growth rates of 86% from £2.9m to £19.0m from 2016 to 2019. Whilst demand for air travel is currently reduced on account of the circumstances, Alternative Airlines continues to grow driven by its strongly performing US business and is on track to generate £27m in 2021. We are targeting £100m revenue by 2023.

Alternative Airlines is experiencing an exciting stage of planned growth and now we need to expand our team to include a Systems Accountant who is passionate about technology, finance, systems and reporting.

The Systems Accountant will work closely with our excellent in-house tech team to design and build new financial systems and structures for a high-volume and high-growth business and working closely with our growing Commercial Team.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about developing great financial technology in a fast-growing, ever-changing and ambitious company.

We see this role as being crucial to support our ambitious growth plans and you will take a lead in building and developing both the financial architecture, operational analytics and reporting.

The Systems Accountant will report directly to the Head of Finance, whilst working closely with the tech, product and commercial heads of the business to drive improved performance to aid key strategic decisions.

 

Responsibilities:

• Developing and constantly improving financial systems and reporting

• Development of effective financial functions and streamline process and operations

• Document existing business processes accurately and clearly

• Clearly define business processes that can be demonstrated to deliver improvements

• Address process and system changes, considering cross functional impacts

• Define how process changes are to be implemented providing regular updates on timescales and milestone deliverables

• Drive the integration and implementation of new finance systems and reporting tools

• Manage the design and configuration of the internal booking system interface

• Lead on user acceptance testing across relevant functions

• Subject matter expert on all systems used in the finance team and payment gateway reporting capabilities

• Train and support the Finance team on new finance systems and processes

• Troubleshoot and resolve finance related system issues

• Collaborate with IT and Finance staff to meet business needs

● Demonstrable experience of leading a finance transformation project

● Strong interpersonal skills to drive user adoption and user training to support the transformation

● Create an environment that embraces digitalisation and automation

● Align IT with an ever-evolving business culture

● Excellent project management skills

● Continually review process and challenge the status quo

● Be the conduit between Finance and IT to enable continuous improvement

● Advanced IT software skills, including accounting software, Microsoft Office and BI applications

● Strong team player but the ability to work independently and use initiative

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders

● Have experience in a high-growth, fast changing environment

● Detailed and methodical with a strong process orientation

● Use technical accounting knowledge to understand the impacts of any system or process changes

● Act as the process owner and subject matter expert

● Qualified Accountant (preferable)
