Brighton College is seeking to appoint a full-time Design Technology Workshop Manager. The salary for this role is £30,000 - £34,000, depending on skills and experience.

As the workshop manager, the successful candidate will play a vital role, ensuring the college workshops run smoothly and efficiently whilst taking on some teaching responsibilities.

Job responsibilities:

The following indicate some of the principal tasks and responsibilities:

• Monitor and maintain the good working order of the college workshops and maintaining high standards for the teaching and learning of teachers and pupils respectively

• Service and repair our extensive range of workshop equipment and tools; maintaining the quality, safety and reliability of:

- CAD/CAM: 3D printers, water jet and laser cutter, CNC router, mill and lathe - Metal: Centre lather, Mill, MIG welding, aluminum casting, forge and brazing hearth -Wood: Vertical panel saw, band saws, wood turning, routing and more general workshop machinery - A substantial collection of hand and power tools

• Assisting the classroom teacher during lesson activities by teaching groups of pupils or providing 1:1 support throughout workshop lessons

• Prepare resources and equipment for teachers while being an active presence during all workshop lessons

• Calculate and manage the use of materials and equipment within the department. Order and prepare these resources to maintain efficient workflows for teachers and pupils

• Inspect and conduct regular digital record keeping of department expenditure, maintenance, H&S and stock control logs

• Regularly review the H&S training programme to ensure the necessary and progressive development of all workshop users

• Facilitate opportunities to learn and share practical skills

• Maintaining the department’s H&S documents while keeping our practices abreast with current guidance and legislation

• Any other reasonable management request

Safeguarding responsibilities:

• This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children

• All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact

There has also been major investment in new facilities over the last ten years. This has seen the construction of five major buildings on the main site, including the new £55m School of Science and Sport which opened in January 2020, which includes eighteen state-of-the-art laboratories alongside a new sports hall, 25-metre swimming pool, fitness centre and roof-top running track. Other recent additions include two new boarding houses, a state-of-the-art Music School and the Yeoh Building, a teaching building which includes 22 classrooms for maths, history, economics, politics and EAL, alongside an innovative Creative Learning Centre, opened in 2017.
