Brighton College is seeking to appoint an Academic Mentor Learning Support during term-time only.

The Academic Mentor, within the Learning Support Department, will be responsible for providing learning support and mentoring to a range of pupils identified through the school’s Referral Process / or those currently on the Learning Support Register. The role will also incorporate a bespoke administration service for the Learning Support Department and will involve promoting the work of the department to ensure inclusive classroom best practice is observed.

ROLE SPECIFICATION

Academic support and mentoring responsibilities:

  • Conduct weekly/fortnightly 1:1 mentoring sessions with a number of pupils identified through the Referral Process and/ or those currently on the Learning Support Register
  • Update/create effective resources to support pupils with organisation, planning and study skills
  • Develop action plans for pupils to support their progress
  • Support pupils with revision planning
  • Assist with communication with parents as required to ensure strategies being used to develop learning and personal development are understood.

Administrative responsibilities:

  • Assist with communication to parents by email or letter as required
  • Assist with communication of referral, screening, EF screening and Educational Psychologist assessments
  • Promote the support available to subject departments to further embed Learning Support within subjects and to help identify relevant resources
  • Assist with preparation and organisation of INSET training, EF training, and teaching & learning support for teaching colleagues
  • General administration: maintenance of Learning Support Register with details of access arrangements and updating iSAMS accordingly, ensure resources are accessible via SharePoint and Firefly, preparation and maintenance of Individual Education Plans
  • Update bespoke revision planners and termly/year planners learning support pupils.

Hours of work:

The core hours will be from 8.20am to 5.00pm with a 40 minute unpaid lunch break (the lunch break is in line with the teaching timetable). This position will be for term-time only (35 weeks per year).

Holidays:

Annual leave entitlement is included in the salary for this role. Holidays should be taken outside of your working weeks.

Safeguarding responsibilities:

  • This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
  • All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
