GUIDANCE MANAGER (2 posts available)

1 x Permanent, full-time

1 x Fixed-term for one year, full-time

Required to start by 29 August 2022 with the possibility of a mid-August start welcome

We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic, dynamic, and suitably experienced individuals to work as members of the Guidance Management Team. As a full-time Guidance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that students have excellent pastoral support in relation to a wide range of issues and needs including academic progress, personal development, behaviour and welfare, careers progression and safeguarding. You will work with the Head of Student Experience to lead and support a team of Personal Tutors, assisting and supervising them in their casework to achieve excellent outcomes for students. You will also have your own two tutor groups and contribute to the tutorial programme.

You will join a Guidance team consisting of six Guidance Managers and a Head of Guidance with an emphasis on collaborative working and sharing best practice. Guidance Managers are allocated their own office space to facilitate confidential casework, whilst regular team meetings, group supervision and cross-college work ensure the Guidance team are supported in their work and are at the heart of the college community. As a member of the Guidance team, you will work closely with other teams from across the college and particularly closely with the Safeguarding, Welfare and Student Support team, Enrichment, Employability and Experience team, as well as our curriculum departments.

In addition to core duties, each Guidance Manager leads on specialist cross-college areas of provision which are agreed annually amongst the team. Current cross-college responsibilities likely to be available to include Student Wellbeing and First Year Transition & Progression.

Both posts are full-time positions, working 37 hours per week. The starting salary is £36,546 per annum which will rise to £39,315 per annum over four years subject to satisfactory performance. This salary is within Grade 8 of the support staff pay spine. Holiday entitlement is 29 days per annum, the majority of which will normally be taken outside usual term time. This entitlement rises to 34 days after five years’ service.

The fixed-term position is to cover maternity leave for a member of the current Guidance team until 31 August 2023 or the return on the permanent post holder, if earlier. This could represent an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their experience and understanding of Guidance and pastoral work as part of sabbatical or career break.

Daily start and end times are negotiable and to be agreed, between the hours of 8am and 5.30pm. From time to time these hours will vary in response to the needs of the College and will include some evening work (for example, parents’ evenings, school visits and open evenings).

Please confirm which post(s) you are applying when writing you cover letter.

For details of how to submit your application, please visit our website www.bhasvic.ac.uk/the-college/working-for-us/current-vacancies

The deadline for receipt of applications is 9am on Monday 23 May 2022

Interviews will take place in week beginning Monday 6 June 2022

For applicants who are invited to interview there will be ample opportunity to learn more about our provision and needs through discussions with staff.

Company

We are a successful Sixth Form College, graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2012.

About 50% of our students come from Brighton and Hove, but many come from other state and independent schools throughout Sussex. The same variety of backgrounds, cultures and interests that make the Brighton area unique, also makes the College a lively, stimulating place to work.

There are approximately 2500 students on roll, of whom the vast majority (approximately 99%) follow Level 3 courses (mostly AS, A levels or BTECs) with the remainder following ESOL courses. The vast majority of our students are in the 16-19 age range, and following full-time courses. We have a strong local reputation for the academic success of our students and for our focus on individuals’ needs.

We are very proud of the achievements of our students and very much value the individual contribution that each of our staff make to our continuing success.  Our last staff satisfaction survey found that nearly 90% of staff at BHASVIC enjoyed their job.

The College is within walking distance of Brighton town centre, Brighton train station and is on a main bus route.  Please note that there is limited parking on the College campus and parking permits are allocated according to the distance you have to travel to work.

We offer a good package of employee benefits including:

  • A family friendly approach to help achieve a healthy work/life balance.
  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme for all our teaching staff.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme for all our support staff.
