Job overview

This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious, dynamic, self-motivated and talented learning disability nurse who can provide senior professional and educational leadership, within the Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental Care Delivery Service (CDS).

The Learning Disability Workforce Lead will have responsibility for nurse education/training/development across East and West Sussex and Brighton and Hove, community and inpatient Learning Disability services and will work in conjunction with the Learning Disability Nurse Consultant and the Nursing Research, Education and Development Team.

Main duties of the job

We are keen to increase the number of learning disability nurses working in SPFT as we know what a difference they make to the lives of people with a learning disability.

The overall aim of this role is to increase the number of nurses working in the Trust who specialise in learning disability nursing in both inpatient and community settings whilst establishing a local career pathway from TNA roles to advanced practice and leadership roles

You would be supervised by our Learning Disability Nurse Consultant.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Learning Disability Workforce Lead will:
  • Liaise with HEIs to establish a pipeline of learning disability student nurses locally
  • Work with us to create the whole learning disability nurse pathway from TNA to Advanced practice and consultant roles
  • Work closely with learning disability nurse practice educators and the learning disability practice education facilitators within our dynamic nurse Ed and research team in the trust

We are looking for applicants who understand the current challenges faced in the Learning Disability Nursing sector and who can bring energy and innovation to this role.

The successful applicant will have a sound working knowledge of contemporary drivers in Learning Disability practice including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, the Equality Act. They will have a strong background of working in learning disability service provision and be able to evidence continued professional development. In addition, the successful applicant will join:
  • A dynamic forward thinking and passionate team of nurses and other health professionals
  • Receive supervision and CPD opportunities
  • Play a fundamental part in shaping the future leaning disability workforce in Sussex

Applicants will need to be flexible and self-motivated, will be part of the Senior Management Team within the Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental Services CDS with strong links to the Nursing, Research, Education and Development team.

Closing date for applications will be on Tuesday 17th May 2022 and interviews will take place at the beginning of June 2022 .

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent
  • Post qualification study to Master's level (or equivalent)
  • Completion of Practice Assessors Course
  • Meet NMC requirement for maintenance of registration including revalidation

- Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience as an operational or clinical manager
  • Extensive experience of teaching in a clinical setting
  • Demonstration of personal development
  • Evidence of developed teaching skills with experience of teaching at pre and post registration degree level
  • Experience of classroom teaching
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge and understanding of nurse education and nurse education practice
  • Experience of performance management
  • Experience of staff management
  • Demonstration of collaborative working with Multi professional teams /other services
  • Evidence of ability to work in partnership with university colleagues
  • Evidence of multi-professional training delivery
