Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the Hospital Rapid Discharge Team (HRDT) covering the 'front door' at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Haywards Heath. The post holder shall be working upon a University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) site via a service level agreement but this permanent full-time post shall be employed through SCFT. The team provide a seven-day Therapy service to A&E, Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU).

The post-holder will be responsible to provide evidence-based, patient-centred assessments and interventions as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team. They will need to ensure that all patients are either discharged home safely from the 'front door' or admitted for further medical treatment with a Therapy Plan already in place if appropriate. There is a quick turnaround of patients at the 'front door' with patients with different conditions such as neurology / muscular skeletal and cardio respiratory.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to develop dual Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy skills, working closely in an inter-professional team. You will work closely with the HRDT Team Lead, nurses, doctors, social workers, carers support and Age UK.

This fast paced working environment at PRH requires a team member that has worked in a range of clinical specialities and desirably has worked within an acute hospital setting. The post holder shall be required to work flexibly in order to provide a 7-day service.

Multi disciplinary co-operative team working skills are essential. Demonstration of initiative, good time management skills, and ability to reflect and learn from clinical practice are required. The applicant should have a broad range of physiotherapy skills gained through post-registration rotation/posts and be able to manage complex situations.

The candidate will be fully supported to attend and participate with an induction programme. There will be opportunity for personal and professional development through regular clinical and operational one-to-one supervision sessions. The candidate will be involved in the mentoring and supervision of other staff/students, performance development reviews, and individual/team project work for department service goals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Therapy team is friendly and has a wealth of experience to offer. The hospital is easily accessible by train and bus, with some parking on site.

Experience of service development, working in the community, and experience of working with the elderly would be an advantage. Excellent knowledge of IT is also essential.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification such as a degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist.
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate courses / CPD and reflective practice relevant to clinical speciality
