Job overview

We are excited to be an expanding service and are looking to recruit a practitioner, RMN, to join the Brighton and Hove perinatal mental health team - this post is 30 hours per week and is based at East Brighton Community Mental Health Centre in Elm Grove, Brighton.

Whilst experience in perinatal mental health is desirable, it is not essential as full training, support and supervision will be given.

Alternatively, if you are a newly qualified or band 5 nurse, we would welcome your application and can offer a bespoke programme and a supportive and creative approach to guide you from band 5 to band 6.

As we expand and develop in line with the NHS long-term plan for perinatal mental health services, this is an exciting time to join an innovative specialist service.

One in five women experience ante or postnatal depression, anxiety or in some cases psychosis, during pregnancy or in the first year after childbirth.

Perinatal community mental health services provide specialist care for women (and their babies) with moderate to severe mental illness, such as bipolar disorder or severe depression. The long-term benefits of this kind of specialist care offers early help and support to parents and babies to help with a range of perinatal issues including parent infant bonding.

Main duties of the job

The specialist perinatal service works with women and girls who are pregnant and/or up to one year postnatal with moderate to severe mental health problems. We support their recovery and the development of skills and strategies to help them maintain or rediscover their wellbeing. Whilst you do not need to have worked in perinatal services we would expect you to have an understanding of the sorts of challenges pregnancy and childbirth can bring about for women and their families.

You will work as part of a team that includes nurses, psychologists, doctors, administration staff and early years workers.

The post holder will provide specialist nursing interventions and act in the role of Lead Practitioner for a defined caseload of clients. The work is varied, interesting and rewarding and all team members are involved with the full range of best practice interventions.

We offer assessment and treatment in clinic community settings as well as in the home and via the digital platform Attend Anywhere.

We work closely with other agencies such as children and family services, primary care, crisis services, Assessment and Treatment services as well as non-statutory organisations.

Working for our organisation

The Long Term Plan for Mental Health sets out national and local ambitions to improve care for women in pregnancy, and through the first stages of their baby's life, who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health difficulties.

Sussex Partnership has a Perinatal Mental Health Service that covers the whole of Sussex. This is delivered by four teams across the area. We are committed to delivering a high-quality service with a strong focus on staff wellbeing.

This post offers a Golden Hello, or a Relocation package up to a maximum of £2000. (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions. Please see attached Protocol document).

To protect the health and safety of our staff/workers, patients, and those attending our sites, we encourage our workforce to get fully vaccinated against COVID
