Job overview

Applications are invited for a full-time Psychology Research Assistant post (Band 4) for 1 year in the first instance (with potential for extension for a further 12 months), at Sussex Partnership NHS foundation trust.

The post is an exciting opportunity to be part of the STAR (Study of Trauma and Recovery) trial, a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded multisite Randomised Controlled Trial to evaluate a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for psychosis (TF-CBTp) for people with post-traumatic stress and psychosis symptoms.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with international experts in the field of psychological therapies for trauma and psychosis. They will work as part of a team of research assistants, researchers and therapists both locally in Sussex, but also nationally. This is a vibrant research group, with lots of opportunities to get involved.

There will be opportunities for CPD activities, to attend talks and to contribute to papers which will derive from the trial and be published in peer reviewed journals.

The candidate will be supported to develop their career alongside the demands of the study.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should be graduate psychologists, have some experience with psychosis populations, experience of working with NHS teams, and an interest in research.

Their primary role will be to recruit and assess participants with co-morbid trauma and psychosis in the trial, involving close liaison with clinical teams and service-users, and to undertake data entry and data management.

The post holder will receive training in the assessment measures, communicating with people with trauma and psychosis, and presenting to clinical teams. They should have strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, have the ability to deliver work according to deadlines, and be flexible and resilient.

Working for our organisation

The post-holder will be managed by our R&D Clinical Research Team Lead (Guy Emery) and supervised by the Site Lead (Prof Kathryn Greenwood) and will also receive regular remote supervision from the Trial Coordinator at the London site.

The project team are international leaders in the psychosis and trauma fields.
