Do you want to part of supporting professionals and young people to develop their approaches to mental health and emotional wellbeing?

If so, a role with The Community Mental Health LiaisonService (CMHL) might be what you're looking for.

We are looking for a Band 6 CMHL Practitioner, 4 days a week to join our team and support professionals, families and young people who present with mild to moderate mental health difficulties in West Sussex.

The CMHL Service has a number of key functions:

1) To provide an early intervention and prevention service for professionals, such as GPs, Teachers, Public Health Nurses, Emotional Well-Being Practitioners, who are working with children and young people who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties

2) To support professionals to develop their skills in managing the emotional well-being of children and young people

3) To provide timely advice to professionals to ensure that young people get the right support at the right time

4) To offer some direct work using an evidence based approach to children and young people with mild to moderate difficulties

At the heart of our work is working alongside other professionals .

As the service covers all West Sussex you may, on occasions be required to travel across the county.

Main duties of the job

The Community Mental Health Liaison team comprises of a range of professionals including Mental Health Practitioners, Mental Health Nurses, Mental Health Social Workers and Occupational Therapists

The service is delivered primarily through a consultation based model in which telephone and clinic based consultation sessions are offered. There are opportunities in the service to undertake direct work with children, young people and their families through evidence based therapeutic interventions. Enhanced consultation is also offered to professionals and families.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification, with evidence of continuing professional development, in a field relevant to child and adolescent mental health.

Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of clinical training in a field relevant to the post eg brief psychotherapy, solution focused approaches, cognitive behaviour therapy, motivational interviewing, or systemic work.

Experience
Essential criteria
  • Minimum 2yrs post and experience of working with Children & Families
  • Significant level of experience of working with children and families, including work with child mental health needs
  • To be able to recognise in children and young people a wide range of clinical and behavioural presentations
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to safeguard and protect children and young people's welfare in line with the Children Act 2004 requirements
  • Demonstrate skills to assess risk using already established assessment tools
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills for systemic assessment of risk factors in the environment and skills to develop a range of strategies to address identified risk

Desirable criteria
  • Significant level of experience working within a CAMHS or a CAMHS related field.
