Job Details

Brighton College is seeking to appoint an Art Technician, to start on 1 September 2022, or as soon as possible after that.

The Art Technician will support and assist the Art and Photography Department in delivering a safe, inspiring and inclusive education to pupils across the school. The Art Technician reports to the Director of Art and Photography with the Bursar having overall responsibility for all support staff.

Job responsibilities:

  • To be friendly, helpful and positive to all pupils and staff.
  • Ensuring departmental objectives are met by liaising with other departments in a friendly helpful and professional manner.
  • Be helpful and supportive of colleagues, particularly the Art Department staff, wherever possible.
  • Ordering art materials for the Art and Photography department as requested by the Director of Art and Photography
  • Checking stock to ensure each order is delivered as ordered, ensuring it is distributed correctly to each teacher, and put away in the plan chests, cupboards, or in the technician’s office
  • Ensure the department is tidy and all cupboards are in order each day. Stock paper drawers regularly and ensure that the printers and photocopier are stocked with paper at regular intervals each day.
  • Help pupils and staff mount the displays of work for moderation of GCSE/AS/A2 work.
  • Help frame, position and hang the photographs of A2 work in the Photography department. Paint the walls if necessary.

Responsibilities for photography include:

  • Changing chemicals as required.
  • Ensuring the darkroom floor, sinks and trays are clean and tidy.
  • Laundering the towels.
  • Responsible for organising the servicing and repair of the enlarger.
  • Ensuring the work surfaces and computer areas are clean and tidy at all times.
  • Ordering stock.
  • Framing and hanging work for moderation.
  • Reloading the printers.
  • Setting up photoshoots.

Responsibilities for Printmaking include:

  • Cleaning the screens.
  • Cleaning up the screen printing room and the screen-cleaning worktop area.
  • Ordering cleaning chemicals / printing inks and paper.
  • Organising the screens to be re-silked.

Safeguarding responsibilities:

  • This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
  • All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
