Job overview

We are excited that you're interested in a role within the Hampshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)!

This is a hugely exciting time to join us. We have secured a significant investment to enhance and expand existing services, and develop new services which includes a paediatric psychiatric liaison service.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Psychiatric Liaison Team Matron will be a core member of the Hampshire CAMHS Leadership Team, and will support the development of this brand new service. They will work closely with other CAMHS teams, including the i2i Crisis Team, Eating Disorders and Community teams, as well as with colleagues in the acute hospitals and adult liaison teams.

This is a hugely exciting opportunity for an innovative and experienced clinician, with a passion for excellence in patient care, the development of clinical staff and a strong commitment to working with young people and families in the spirit of co-production to continually improve our services.

The post is primarily based in Winchester (Royal Hampshire County Hospital), but travel will be required to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, as well as occasionally to other CAMHS sites Hampshire-wide.

Working for our organisation

Hampshire CAMHS values the contribution that nursing professionals bring, and has a well-established structure and strategy. Robust and supportive supervision and governance arrangements are in place to support high quality and effective clinical practice. We are a CQC Good-rated Trust (rated Outstanding for Caring).

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is supportive of staff professional development and provides access to quality training opportunities.

Hampshire CAMHS prioritises staff wellbeing and we encourage colleagues to maintain a positive work-life balance, with robust clinical and line management supervision, support and training. Service leadership is strong and supportive.

All our work is based on encouraging our people to work creatively and be innovative in their thinking to support new and different ways of working.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Paediatric Psychiatric Liaison Service is a new development in Hampshire CAMHS' crisis response to children and young people. The service will be based in Hampshire Hospitals' (HHFT) Emergency Departments (ED) and will complement the community-based i2i crisis service. The two services will work in partnership to develop robust and clear pathways between community and acute settings, working to appropriately support children and young people experiencing mental health crisis.

The Matron will provide clinical and operational leadership to the Paediatric Psychiatric Liaison Service, ensuring service delivery is child-centred, of high quality, optimising patient safety and experience.

This post has lead accountability for the delivery of objectives outlined below:
  • Promote and deliver the Modern Matron agenda, as defined by the Department of Health and Social Care.
  • Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical settings and related forums, to patients, carers and staff, demonstrating clear and effective clinical leadership and developing clinical practice.
  • Develop clear crisis pathways between community and acute settings in partnership with the community crisis service (i2i) Team Manager and adult mental health services.
  • Ensure that the highest standards of care are aspired to and achieved within the resources available.

Deliver effective governance, achieve performance targets, use information and data effectively to improve quality and minimise risk

Sussex Partnership NHS FT is committed to supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our communities. Our workforce is currently under-represented from Black and Minority, Ethnic and disabled communities and we would welcome applications from these communities.

We regret that we are unable to advise candidates if they have not been shortlisted. If you have not heard from us within three weeks of the closing date please assume that you have been unsuccessful on this occasion.

In the event of an excessive number of applicants the Trust reserves the right to close this vacancy earlier than indicated.

The Trust works with adult and children's social care to ensure that the integrated service has systems in place to equip staff and bank workers with the knowledge and skills to recognize abuse, and take action to safeguard and protect vulnerable adults and children and young people. It is expected that all staff and bank workers familiarise themselves with the appropriate structures and policies and with the Sussex child protection and safeguarding procedures and the Sussex multi-agency policy and procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults and undertake the relevant essential training and further training appropriate to their role.

Successful candidates are normally offered salaries at the bottom of the relevant salary range. However, where previous or equivalent NHS experience in a similar role can be demonstrated and evidenced, this may be taken into consideration when setting the starting salary.
