Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our forward thinking and effective leadership team.

We are seeking a Clinical Operational Manager to lead our Acute and Urgent Care Services in Worthing. It is a great time to join us and to be part of leading service developments, working with our fantastic staff and a wide range of partners to deliver outstanding care and treatment to our local population. You will be part of a wider leadership team supporting the delivery of our clinical strategy and implementing the NHS long term plan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a wide range of experience and ability in operational management including service innovation, partnership working, managing change, recruitment, retention and development of a workforce able to deliver the highest quality care. A track-record of service user / carer involvement and evidence of responsiveness to service user and carer feedback is essential. You will need to be a registered mental health professional, and passionate about delivering excellent services.

Main duties of the job

This will focus on, but not exclusively, the following areas:
  • Working with a range of services and providers to develop high quality community health services
  • Working to clinical leaders and patients to ensure responsive and appropriate care provision
  • Leading service change as part of community redesign in a wider Integrated Care System
  • The delivery of excellent services through the management and deployment of both health and social services resources within a defined budget.
  • Participate in the development of the Leadership Team and work in partnership with lead clinicians/ practitioners to become involved in service planning and decision making and delivery.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation and monitoring of policies.
  • To ensure recommendations from Serious Untoward Incidents (SUIs), near misses, complaints and other incidents are implemented, and maximise trust wide learning by identifying any trends.
  • Lead on designated projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key areas of delivery are as follows:-
  • Work effectively within the Leadership Team facilitating trust, holding self and colleagues to account appropriately and demonstrating personal commitment to integrated (managerial/professional) leadership.
  • Achieve a defined set of performance targets, in accordance with contractual requirements and the performance framework for Monitor, the Care Quality Commission, and other relevant statutory and professional bodies.
  • Provide services within the agreed financial resources and achieve all financial targets, including cost efficiency savings, ensuring maximum value in terms of clinical and cost effectiveness.
  • To actively contribute in the planning and delivery of the business objectives, service plans and change projects, ensuring customer focus, consistency, quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Respond to Serious Untoward Incidents (SUIs), complaints and communications, ensuring timely and thorough investigation, disseminating recommendations and monitoring that actions are fully implemented
  • Contribute to external groups and specific projects and work streams as required e.g. within the local health and social care community

Person specification

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree/ diploma level with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience
  • Clinical/post graduate management qualification to masters or equivalent level of experience and proven ability to perform at this level

Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of and demonstrable achievement in managing health/social care services.
  • Management of resources and good track record with change management, efficiency savings and financial recovery plans
  • Experience of modernising services without additional resources.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders in the redesign of services
  • Experience of project management and imaginative planning
  • Experience of managing a diverse practitioner team (multi site).
  • Measurable track record in involving and motivating staff to improve performance
