Senior Radiographer - 22.5 hours per week

The HWLH Radiology department is looking for a band 6 radiographer with a wealth of NHS experience to join our dedicated and friendly team providing plain film (DR) and dental imaging services to community referrers. Excellent clinical and problem solving skills, experience in an acute A&E, and previous experience supervising in a radiology team are essential for this role. Working in the community you will have the confidence and experience to advise referrers appropriately and prioritise clinically urgent referrals. Your passion for plain film radiography, student mentorship and quality improvement will ensure you get the most out of the senior radiographer role. Up to date IT skills are essential and the use of PACS and RIS functionality are an integral part of the day to day running of the department.

You will be required to work across the HWLH radiology departments - this post holder will cover weekly shifts at Crowborough War Memorial Hospital, Uckfield Community Hospital, Chailey Clinical Services and Lewes Victoria Hospital. A degree of flexibility with regards the working days will be expected. A valid driver's licence is a must as well as your own means of transport.

Main duties of the job
  • To undertake radiographic examinations using analytical, judgemental and physical skills to achieve the appropriate high quality image.
  • To liaise with referrers and service users to maintain an efficient service and assist referring Emergency Nurse Practitioners in the Minor Injury Unit by employing the Red Dot Scheme for identifying abnormal appearances on x-ray images.
  • To use the radiology information system for patient management, data collection and storage. To use PACS for data management and storage. The information on both these systems is shared with other sites.
  • To work with the Clinical Services Manager to ensure the day to day smooth running of the department including absence cover
  • To undertake training as necessary in line with development of the post
  • To participate fully in the development review (appraisal) process and undertake Continuing Professional Development as required.

Person specification

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • BSc Honours Degree in Diagnositc Radiography or DCR Diagnostic Radiography
  • Current HCPC registration


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Over 3 years working in the NHS as a diagnostic radiographer at band 6 or above
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise workload while balancing clinical priority of patients


Other requirements
Essential criteria
  • Evidence knowldge of and practical application of IR(ME)R and IRR


Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates leadership in practice and the ability to manager a team including team dynamics, risk management and the ability ot challenge practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of change management and its implications for teams and individuals
  • Knowledge of appraisal and supervision skills
