37 hours per week, term-time only 42 weeks per year

The Creative Industries department at Brighton MET has an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Technician in Film, Media & VR. This important role is great opportunity for a film or media practitioner to join the MET at an exciting time as we are expanding our digital provision.

The successful applicant will be part of our hardworking creative technician team and be supported and led by the Senior Technician for Creative and Digital Industries. This role is to support teaching and learning in our outstanding Film and Media department. The role has the additional responsibility to look after our VR kit and specialist VR lab, this aspect of the role is new for the college and full training with a national VR company will be provided for the right applicant. The primary function of this role however, is film and media.

Applicants should have a strong working knowledge of film and media and ideally a degree in film or a related subject. This is an exciting role and one of the key aspects is to support our regular live broadcasts at Brighton Dome – this work usually takes place in the evenings. Other aspects of the role are to support students with their learning and projects, to give demonstrations in class or studios when required and to ensure all equipment is serviced and ready to use for lessons and for loans. All our Creative and Digital technicians play a lead part in the set-up of our renowned End of Year show which takes place every June.

An important part of this role is to ensure students safety in the studios and to ensure the safe operation of all equipment and safety in the specialist studios and work areas. The loan of equipment is a significant aspect of the role and the Film and Media Technician is responsible for booking out equipment to staff and students and ensuring its safe return. Our film and media equipment requires regular servicing and maintenance and the purchase of consumables and equipment is also a key part of the job.
