Purpose of role

This role is hands-on across all of our operations with the main focus on our transport department. You will provide support to the Head of Operation with transport and logistics, and you will be a key member of the team, helping to pull everything together and make sure that we deliver the best possible service and experience to our customers.

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for someone who understands Transport, Logistics and delivering operational efficiencies. You may not have previously worked in our sector or even in the private sector in general. If you have a background in transport & logistics, we would like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Head of Operations plan and control the daily activity to ensure all customer delivery and collection obligations are met
  • Manage a small transport team – three drivers & three vans – across both the Crawley and Warrington operating sites to ensure high standards of care and attention and relationship building with our customers 
  • Communicate with the sales team, engineering and projects to co-ordinate workloads and ensure timely deliveries and collections
  • Work with the Head of Operations to ensure all operational staff comply with all relevant Health and Safety rules and guidelines towards transport 
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the full equipment inventory and the end-to-end operational requirements and core systems (such as R2) 
  • Assist with the performance of regular stock takes as required
  • Ensure all vehicles are maintained to a high standard and presentable and ensure that the vehicles are serviced and MOT’s are completed when required 
  • Plan and deploy the most effective routes for each delivery vehicle ensuring all deliveries are on time and accurate, booking couriers as and when necessary 
  • Monitor driver hours 
  • Record any vehicle accidents and assist with the completion of reports to insurers as necessary 
  • Maintain up-to-date records of driving licences, driver qualifications and any motoring offences incurred by the transport team  
  • Manage the constantly changing demand on logistical requirements 
  • Oversee overseas transport requirements through Carnets, booking & quoting. Creating picking lists & commercial invoices – Experience a must for this position
  • Liaise with external suppliers in relation to the building management as and when necessary, maintaining professional relationships with all external contacts 
  • Provide effective cover for the Head of operations in his absence

Person Specification

  • Highly self-motivated team player who thrives in a challenging and demanding environment 
  • Deadline driven, with high standards of accuracy 
  • Strong organisational and administration skills to be able to identify problems, assess and resolve them 
  • Demonstrate experience working within various teams 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of transport, logistics & supply chain
  • Experience in managing and maintaining inventory using ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems (no experience of the specific Presteigne ERP is required – you will be taught this)
  • Ability to communicate precisely and timely – to work under pressure
  • Strong PC literacy, especially databases and spreadsheets
  • Our success is based on our ability to respond to our client’s needs. You will need to work flexible hours and support the head of operations in delivering results

Special Conditions

The role works on a shift basis between 08:00 to 19:00, Monday to Friday, as a result your hours may be scheduled for any 9-hour period (which includes an hour lunch break), per day, within this period.

Overtime/weekend work may be required within this position but is planned in advance.
