Senior Market Analyst

Location: Flexible – Glasgow, Reading or Crawley

 

Thales UK have an exciting vacancy for a Senior Market Analyst to support our sector strategic marketing directors by providing analysis, specific reports & deliverables that inform and contribute to their market sector activities, focused on the optronics and missile electronics market.

The UK analyst team offers great opportunities for career progression, with clear competencies and development programmes to build your experience and toolset of analysis techniques.  The team is spread geographically across the UK, but we work both individually and collaboratively in the services we provide to the business, and you will have the opportunity to work with other colleagues internationally in support of export activity as well.  There is great variety in the work we do, and the team is recognised in the Group as being at the leading edge of best practice in a number of areas, which is enabled by our operating model of mutual support and challenge.

This role will be responsible for providing analysis and insight of markets and competitors relating to the business winning activity and offer development.  The role is transversal in nature, reflecting the market footprint and requires a broad understanding across the domains of air, land and maritime as well as digital offers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The systematic gathering and recording of data about issues relating to marketing products, systems and services to provide the business with relevant, accurate, validated and current information. Includes gathering of primary intelligence through attendance at relevant conferences and industry forums as well as building relationships with Government stakeholders

  • Analysis of data to provide synthesis of key market characteristics & competitor insight, as well as highlighting implications for business strategy

  • Market: Construction of comprehensive forecast models (wide coverage; incorporating formulas to provide additional functionality) to provide insight on market size, profile, geography and timescales. 

  • Competitor: capabilities, product offerings, price to win and price-performance analysis; potential partner organisation identification; providing a synthesis of competitor key marketing messages to Communications to inform our communications strategy.
  • Supporting the UK Strategy & Marketing business intelligence system on a daily basis by screening & uploading news articles, contract notices & events, reports & analyses etc. ensuring that they do not contain any information above ‘Thales Group Internal’ or any classified or company sensitive material.  Responsibilities may also include providing support to the main system administrator, covering:

  • Management of user accounts and groups
  • Management of shared alerts
  • Providing usage reports, as required
  • Liaising with the system provider to maintain information sources and search terms for the web crawling software.
  • Co-ordinating training for users
  • Supporting alignment of system architecture with business requirements & market-facing structure.
  • Supporting the strategic business planning process by providing input on market trends & drivers, market sizing and competitive intensity.

 

About You:

Skills & Experience:

  • Broad knowledge of the Defence industry.

  • Some experience of lifecycle review process & context in business decision making.

  • Experience of facilitating working sessions and managing debate to deliver a balanced output (e.g., Black Hat reviews).

  • Able to identify & synthesize customer needs from primary and secondary intelligence and highlight implications for Thales’ product positioning.

  • Capability to answer a broad range of questions through comprehensive knowledge of Thales’ key markets and competitors; able to summarise key points and highlight implications for the business.

  • Builds a strong personal network within the business and supplements this through key external contacts to enhance the sharing and codification of market intelligence within the business.

  • Supports Strategy & Marketing Sector leads through strong understanding of competitor positioning and the strengths & weaknesses of Thales’ products to enhance Thales’ product positioning.

  • Highly productive and able to manage workload to tight deadlines.

  • Ability to organise and manipulate data in Excel to analyse markets and construct market models, with assumptions justified and stated clearly.  Some experience of scenario modelling techniques to enhance output.

  • Understanding of company financial data, financial ratios and business case models, including criteria for business case appraisal.

  • Ability to combine secondary desk-based research techniques with primary intelligence gathering at external forums, whilst at the same time adopting an ethical approach to competitive intelligence gathering.

  • Able to articulate and succinctly present findings to a range of internal stakeholders, including business leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Degree-level qualification in an analytical subject.

  • Desirable: Degree-level qualification with a business or marketing focus
