Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for a 1 WTE Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly team based at Brighton General Hospital. You will be part of a large dynamic team and have opportunities to develop your clinical skills with support from both specialist and advanced practitioners.

You will be working with patients who live across Brighton and Hove. The post holder will manage a varied community caseload, with adults presenting with both progressive and non-progressive conditions and a range of communication and swallowing difficulties. Post-qualification dysphagia training and experience is essential and you need to have had at least two years' experience in adult neurology.

The post holder will have opportunities to shadow and work with specialist nurses and practitioners in MS, PD and MND, and attend videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics to support their patients as required. They will have access to regular supervision with other B6 colleagues across the Trust, and be offered ongoing support by our significantly experienced team of clinicians. The post holder will also have the opportunity to shadow specialists in stammering and develop skills in this area if it is of interest to them.

Part-time employment can also be considered.

Main duties of the job

To be a specialist therapist within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service, providing a comprehensive, specialist clinical service to clients referred with communication and or swallowing difficulties.

To be an active member of the adult SLT service and a specialist resource, including liaison with other SLTs and other professionals external to the service in relation to specialist information, analysis and advice on continuing care.

To comply with the standards and priorities laid down by the SLT service and Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
